30K Death Guard Tactical Support Marines with Volkites Showcase

Hi All,

Doc here back with a simple showcase post. I have a 30k game arranged with Boss Bludtoof in mid November and I decided having another painted unit would be cool.  So I started batch painting 19 minis at once but gave up pretty quickly (I am not Mordian 7th) and dropped it to 10!  Anyway stuck to the same scheme as my other stuff and I am happy with the outcome.

What I really like about this year is the amount of minis and scenery I have painted I have surpassed last year by a long way which given everything which is going on personally that I am quite proud of.  On to some pictures as always constructive feedback is welcome.

That's all folks until next time,

The New Year - More Cypra Incident and More 19th Dicers

Happy New Year folks and welcome to 2018!

Morning All,

Hope you have all enjoyed the lords of reaping blog event we had for December I suspect more posts may pop out of the paintwork on that front as code members cannot always make it in December with family commitments.

Anyway just to say the new year marks the start of a new painting points year as I aim to catalogue what I paint each year.  Please see the right hand side bar on the website version of the blog to see how I get on.  Aim this year is 50 figures as I completed just 40 in 2017.

The next project hitting my desk is the preparation for the air base assault mission for The Cypra Incident.  For those who need a catch up the last mission can be found here.  Or you can click on the link to all the cypra incident posts on the left hand side of website version of the blog.

So we have agreed to build and paint at least 3 flyers each..... eeek I have only done one so Boss is already up on that front.  However, I started to think what I would like to go alongside the flyers and thought some scions fits with this kind of daring mission.  I thinking I will build 3 squads eventually but as I popped into GW for something special earlier I picked up a box....

The thing that strikes is is how advanced the kits are compared to both the cadians and catachans.  They really are nice figures so I am very happy with my decision!

The other thing I picked whilst in GW was Sly Marbo...  Nice sculpt dodgy hairdo and disappointingly finecast but hey ho here he is put together.

I don't expect to get too much further as I have my final two masters exams to get through but it felt nice to have a play with these for a couple of hours. More to come when I am able.

Cheers

A New Hobby Season - Confession of a 40K Addict

Hi All,

For years I have followed Dave's from confession of the 40k addicts progress using his hobby season format.  It has seemed to be a nice motivational tool.  So when Dave a couple of weeks back put a shout to see if anyone would like to join him for the next season starting I thought yep I am in for this! Extra motivation tools cant be a bad thing right?  So what is a hobby season  guess you are asking?

Well its simple and the best thing in a hobbyist arsenal a list!  A list of projects you would like to complete in the next 12 months.  Dave has also kindly made some icons or stamps to go along with the hobby season.

Ok along with the stamp above Dave has made some cool completed stamps which I attend to use. They are split down into major and minor hobby list stamps.  First up is the major stamp followed by my list of major projects for the next 12 months.

 Major Projects 2016/17

Mortarion Primarch of the Death Guard
Spartan Assault Tank
Knight Cerastus Lancer
Cerebus Tank
New Desert Themed Board
Deadzone Board (not 40k thats ok right!)
Leman Russ Primarch of the Space Wolves
Imperial Navy Avenger Strike Fighter
Necron Teseract Ark
MDF Necromunda Terrain
Re paint baneblade

Ok so there are 3 major scenery projects on here which is typical of me!  I love scenery so not surprised by this.  I will be surprised if I finish all 3!  This is 11 major projects but its a list right (dare to dream!).

Minor Projects 2016/17 (this could go on for a while!)
2 X Chimeras
1 X Taurox
1 X Valkyrie
2 X 19th Dicer Psykers
1 X Colonel 19th Dicers
4 X Repaint of Leman Russ Tanks
5 X Enforcer Pathfinders
1 X Enforcer Strider
5 X Enforcer Peacekeepers
10 X Volkite Death Guard
2 X Rhinos Death Guard
3 X Medusa's Death Guard
30 X Tactical Legion Death Guard
10 X Assault Marines Death Guard
10 X Deathshrouds Death Guard
6 X Jetbikes Death Guard
3 X Drop Pods Space Wolves
3 X Thunderwolf Cav Space Wolves
1 X Iron Priest Space Wolves
20 X Fenrisian Wolves
1 X Wraithknight Eldar
6 X Fire Dragons Eldar

Ok, I am stopping for now as this will get ridiculous and achieve the opposite of motivation!  Alongside this motivational tool I will continue painting points which I update on the right hand side of the blog and my annual review around new year.  My basic target has always been to paint a minimum of 100 minis a year which I am on target for this year so far!

So how many projects do you reckon I will complete from the lists above? Let me know in the comments and also please share links of you hobby lists / motivational techniques?

Cheers

Stormwolf Showcase - Preparation for Worcester War 4

Hi All,

So after committing to the armies of the Imperium team for Worcester War 4 I worked out some lists and realised that left me some stuff to paint.  As usual I am good at painting to deadlines and so have knocked out an additional terminator, new weapon options for my land speeder, a stormwolf and 5 necromunda gang members since Sunday!  All these models are speed painted but are designed to match a force the bulk of which was painted many years ago.  It seems little point in changing a scheme unless you plan to go back and re paint the lot.  Pictures I here you cry oh go on then...

Stormwolf: (No 1 tip and I should know better don't glue the canopy in with super glue!  It frosts up and looks terrible)

Additional Wolf Guard Terminator:

Necromunda Gangers:

You may notice my ganger's are a bit of a mix.  I have recently returned to the game after many years away and I don't have a full gang of the same models so instead I use a mixture of chaos cultist models, guard models and the odd necromunda model from back in the day.  When not in use for necromunda they go back into my cultists or renegade guard army.  Multi-Use models huzzah!

This is a solid 17 painting points haul here see the side bar for more details. As always constructive comments are most welcome.

Cheers

Hobby Objectives 2014/2015

Hi all,

Doc here to set out my hobby objectives for the year and finalise my painting points for 2014.  Last year I didn't set any objectives but got 4 months into the year and realised my rate of buying was significantly outweighing my painting progress.  At this point I decided to introduce painting points from 1st April 2014 and finally blogged about it on the 10th May.  The original post can be seen here.

In a nutshell the introduction of painting points worked in terms of slowing down my spending! However, I still haven't been that productive imo on the painting side and I will explain why in more detail later.

From the 1st April 2014 to the end of the year I achieved the following:

27 X 25mm round base models ( 11 enforcers, 2 pts for 6 objective markers, 14 death guard marines)
1 X 40mm round base model painted ( Enforcer leader)
1 X 60mm round base model painted ( Thunderwolf Space Wolf Lord)
2 X Character models painted ( Inquisitor and Rune Priest)
3 X Tanks or bigger (Imperial Knight, Eldar flyer, Contemptor Dreadnought)

I note I have not showcased all the death guard stuff I've done something I will sort in the first few weeks of 2015.  All in all not a bad list you may say however, I started all of the following and not finished them:

Land speeder storm
5 scouts
5 sniper scouts
Defiler
Forge fiend
Warp talons
Sternguard
SM bikes
2 X Drop pods
1 X manufactorum tile
2 X realm of battle tiles
Calas typhon

This list might not be exhaustive but it illustrates a clear problem no focus!  I blogged about this earlier in 2014.  So objectives for 2015 are to get some of the above finished!  I can rack a lot of painting points by finishing started projects.  This should then allow me to play some games with my death guard as space marines in 40K.

I also have a list of not started but purchased for 2015:

15 iron armour death guard marines.
Legion devastator squad
2 x storm talons
1 x tesseract ark
1 x storm wolf

I have two big things I would like to purchase in 2015 a spartan assault tank and a cerastus knight Acheron.  These will both require a significant number of painting points but I am aiming high.

Blog objectives are simple for me a minimum of 1 post a month from me I have worked out 5 blog posts based on upcoming projects and events.

Lastly gaming objectives for 2015:

2 more games in the return to code40k campaign
15 games of 40k
4 games of warhammer fantasy

I start 2015 with a -£23.50 hobby fund but I am confident this will turn round in short order.  I'm interested in particular what projects other code members intend to get after this year and in general how other hobbiests go about planning a hobby year.

That's all for now folks please comment with your thoughts?

Cheers

Imperial Knight Showcase

Evening All,

Doc here with the promised showcase of my Imperial Knight Freeblade.  I don't have WIP shots for this model as it was completed in secret so I could surprise Red Mist in a recent battle.  So many of my recent posts have talked about sponge weathering and this model gave me the chance to really put that to good use.

I have painted him in the Gerantius 'The Forgotten Knight' colour scheme.  Two reasons for this firstly I only intend to use 1 and second I really liked the look of the sea green.  Its a colour I haven't painted much before.  This model also allowed me to get over I hate transfers thing....  Well sort of still hate transfers!

Anyway on to the picture dump....

I need to stop buying models - Painting Points

Hi All,

Doc here with another dose of were I'm at....  So a couple of the guys and me went to forgeworld open day and I spent a decent wod of cash as you do!  However before I went after discussions with the boss (wife) I voluntarily decided to introduce a system of painting points.   Now I'm not the only one doing this Dale over on Realm of 40K has also introduced a similar system. Have a read of Dales post here.  So why painting points?  In reality the reason is my backlog of mini's to paint is huge and to be frank I would concede I have bought more than what I have painted in the last two years.
