Evening All,
Quick post this evening to show my latest build project a laser destroyer vindicator. A few issues with the build not least the sides which slot together differently to standard rhino kits so watch out for that. I currently have a plan to go into a build phase for my death guard before a tank batch paint to ensure I get a consistent finish.
Also just to note the next post in the series using the inter webs will hit this weekend and will be all about video battle reports.
Ok quick pick of the completed build:
Cheers

Cerastus Knight Acheron - WIP #2
Hi All,
Wowsers I have been away from the blog and hobby for a while, apologies for that and now it is time to get my mojo back! It is also bad timing as traditionally code40k members tail back the hobby work over the summer months meaning blog posts have been a little thin on the ground. Anyway trying to get back going again now...
So I have gone back my Knight Acheron and for those of you who need reminding or missed it the original build post is here and the first WIP is here.
In order to go any further I need to get all the waterslide transfers in place or decals depending on where you are in the world. I have bought the House Makabius set from forgeworld. This is mainly because I intend to paint 4 knights in this colour scheme. Over the years transfers have been a bane and I still dont like them but since switching to the Micro -Set and Micro Sol method it has become easier. I would recommend the following youtube video for an explanation:

And the following video as a tutorial:
Here are some photos of the transfers in place before weathering:
My main top tip for this post is to always apply the transfers before weathering which is a mistake I made a while back. To not do so means they look out of place and pristine with the rest of the model looking weathered. As you can see from the pictures above I have successfully applied all the transfers. The most difficult transfer which is not pictured is the banner transfer which hangs between the legs. The banner is curved and the micro sol came in particularly handy for the banner piece.
So with transfers applied the next stage will be to complete the base and then finish weathering followed by completed assembly. I hope to show you a completed knight in the next two weeks.
So nice to be back in the saddle
Cheers

Cerastus Knight Acheron - WIP #1
Morning All,
I have been working away on my knight acheron. I wanted to get it to a usable state whilst I await delivery of transfers to finalise the model. I have taken the odd photo along the way to show you some progression. This has been a really enjoyable process so far and I look forward to the final model being finished.
I had already decided to loosely follow the House Makabius colour scheme although I decided on a metallic brighter blue than the forgeworld example. To test it out I just did one shoulder pad. The airbrush finish on the blue and cream is so flat and makes me wonder why I would ever do it the "old way" again. At this stage no washes had been applied.
From here I upscaled to multiple panels including masking the shin plates to ensure a crisp line between the cream and blue. For info I use the tamiya masking tape range for this purpose.
Snap from a couple of nights ago showing the chaos of it all
Flamer tanks completed..... A whole mass of effects and mediums used on here. Airbrushed vallejo silver. Some areas airbrushed vallejo rust. Then washed with agrax and nuln oil. Drybrushed boltgun metal. Next I went in with a whole load of effects to weather it up using the products below.
So as usual with me after this point got really into it and picked up the pace now I was comfy with the colour scheme and techniques below is a picture of the knight as it stands. Still decals, weathering, base and many more little jobs to do.
What do you all think so far, any advice? Hope to have it all finished in the next few weeks.
Cheers

Spartan Assault Tank - FW's Hardest Kit to Build?
Evening All,
Not been on here in a little while but have successfully built the hardest GW kit in the world the Spartan Tank. More specifically the version before they changed the design and molded it with the tracks on. I also made the mistake of trying to carry on with this when in a foul mood! That as we all know simply doesn't work!
Anyway here is a few pictures showing the tank at various stages including the track bodge I ended up doing. Once it is all painted and weathered I will cover up these issues. For anyone else attempting this version of the kit GOOD LUCK.....
God Bless the elastic bands and the stolen from the better half hair bands!
Major track issues stemming from the front not being positioned right (during in the night in question!)
Picked the forgeworld brass etch for this tank.
The next two photos show the tank in primer and me starting to lay down the shadows.
Genuinely hated this build so glad it is out the way now. This is not my current painting project but I will return to it in the next few months.
Thoughts on your experience with this kit would be interesting and also any good stories about when you should stop modelling might help!
Cheers

Cerastus Knight Acheron - The Build
Morning All,
Today I am sharing the build process for my Knight Acheron. I have to say first off GW the instructions are rubbish! and has clearly been photocopied lots of times!
Anyway this my first forgeworld knight my other knight is a plastic kit. The first thing to do is wash all the parts and make sure all the parts are present. One of my friends has recently had a problem with forgeworld not wanting to replace a missing part without proof of purchase. This was very frustrating after I was with him when he bought it for cash at a forgeworld open day. Anyway after proving he ordered some other stuff for delivery on the same day they relented. So guys advice is keep or get a receipt and check the parts when you get home even if you don't intend to build it in the near future.
The next thing I did because I knew I would do the build over several days is split the parts into sections bag them and label them as can be seen in the first picture below.
The first section I constructed was the body and cockpit, I have to say no matter what I did I couldn't get this to fully line up so in the end I went with best fit and have since filled the minor gaps with green stuff. Top tip for any new folk out there elastic bands! Also leave it a good while to go off.
Next I cleaned up all the armour panels although I have no intention of gluing any to the model until after the paint job has been completed. Next top tip be careful around the thin bits of resin as you can see from the next picture. I should not of used cutters in this area. I think gently cutting away with a sharp knife would of been more sensible. I have since fixed this with green stuff and hopefully after painting and weathering you wont be able to tell!
At this stage I then realised I needed to design the base to allow me to start constructing up from the ground. So I toyed with full city fight ruins and so on but then thought I don't always use models on city fight terrain. So I scaled back to the design below and aim to have the one foot stood on the barrel. The fantasy grave stone is more for a bit of fun and will be adorned with one of the code40ker's name for a laugh! The knight head will also be painted to match one of the code players knights.
So from this point on I started to pick up speed as the excitement takes you onwards. First thing was working out the foot on top of the barrel and I actually drilled and pinned the foot to it. Once I had the first foot in place I blue tacked up the legs to work out where to position foot number two. I wanted to ensure the hip joint wouldn't look to unnatural.
Ok so now I got really excited and stopped taking pictures of the process (woops). So the next picture shows all the sub assemblies ready for painting. I will say I used the hairdryer as per the instructions on the cables on the back of the legs. Next top tip "You literally only need it on for 10 seconds tops" any more and it goes very floppy.
Well that is the completed sub assemblies next I will consider a colour scheme as my other knight is Gerantus the Forgotten Knight (who can be found here) I will need to consider whether I go with another freeblade or consider a knight household?
Any questions, tips or thoughts please comment constructively below.
Cheers

The Great British Build Off - Heresy Arms Race - Death Guard
Hi All,
So Ho Ho Ho Horus Heresy came and went and the code on the whole did badly. We were saved by Toonboys brothers showcase of Primarchs which were fantastic! I hope you enjoyed them I certainly did. The fact still remains however, that us code boys are still sitting on a whole load of Resin - Innermech, Doc, Lukodakka and Redmist in particular.
So I was over Innermechs yesterday and to my surprise sat there were lots of built heresy models the lad had been really busy! Not only that but he must be skint!
Anyway today I decided I would have a little go and build up a few more things! Here goes:
5 more deathshrouds, this now gives me 10 of these built. Although a warpage issue needs fixing as illustrated by the second photo!
Finished the build on my breacher sergeant now my mk3 close combat weapons have arrived. I used the head from the rapier guy to make a better looking sergeant.
2 Apothecaries, every good death guard needs feel no pain right!
Praetors - alternative leaders for when you need them. Put these guys on code design bases.
Contemptor number 2, haven't decided yet if I will magnetise the arms or not. I have a power fist and plasma arm for this guy magnetised from first contemptor which is completed as a mortis pattern. Tempted to order volkite arms for this one?
Not content with just doing heresy as Boss Bludtoof mentioned we are committed to a campaign. So I have also been putting stuff together for the first two games of the campaign. Being a cheepskate and guard are cheap I am making all the guard heavy weapon options from one box. Today I built up the autocannons for the 19th Dicers Regiment.
I am currently formulating the background for this regiment. I think I am going to play a regiment which is on the edge of slipping to chaos and have been sent to colonise a planet after a successful campaign against the 7th black crusade. The planet is a bit of back end of the galaxy type and resentment to there honoured settlement rights is growing. I will expand this background a little further once we get in to the campaign proper.
Right hope you like my great British Build off next time I will share InnerMechs Dark Angel builds I mentioned above.
Cheers

Forgemas 14; Eldar Corsair Hornet; The Build.
Hello All,
Bluddtoof here with my first Forgemas 14 post, the build of my first Eldar Hornet for my new Corsairs army. I'm using the, slightly out of date, lists from the Doom Of Mymaera book from Imperial Armour and in a new style for me I won't be just buying all the cool toys I can get my grubby mitts on and then leaving half of them sat on shelves for 6 years awaiting some paint! No! This army will be built and painted unit by unit to a series of lists I've written! Will wonders never cease!
So Forgemas has worked out quite well for me as it gives me an opportunity to make a start on the army and paint one of the units from my initial 750pt list. The list contains a Corsair Prince with Bladesworn retinue on a Corsair Venom, 10 Corsairs with jetpacks, 3 Corsair jetbikes, a Hornet with Pulse Lasers (the subject of this post) and a Corsair Wasp Assault Walker with scatter lasers. The bigger lists each add more units to this base list and also add points to existing units here and there. More on those over the course of 2015.
Back to the Hornet and the style of the army in general; you may have seen some of my older posts on the trial build and paint of my first Corsair, they can be found here here here and here, the idea is that the army represents a Corsair raid on an Imperial facility and as such all the bases will be cut away sections of the facility floor, each infantry and bike squad will be distinguished from the others by the type of flooring material they are stood on rather than use squad markings, which don't fit the army in my mind.
All the vehicles will be on large scenic bases, I'm going to go to town on these and make each one into a little diorama with Imperial soldiers and techs hiding or fighting or dying etc, they'll include lots of ducting and pipework both under the floors and above them.
So onto the Hornet, it took me about 8 hours to build this, the base and model combined, and also several hours of drying time for the balsa and plaster sections, all told I built in 2 days and I really enjoyed it. The kit is decent quality, a fair bit of flash to remove but no warping which can be common with resin.
To start here's a picture of the completed build, I'll follow up with some step by step notes and piccies...
Fist step was to start on the base; I wanted to depict the Hornet zipping at breakneck speed down a pipe and conduit lined trench, hunting Imperial troops, the pilot relying on his unnatural reflexes to avoid the perilous structures. To achieve this I decided to pose the Hornet at a quite steep angle with one wing down in the trench, just skimming over pipes on top of the trench wall. The trench wall was the first bit to build and is made from a frame of 10mm cross section balsa pillars, 4 in total, with 2mm balsa sheet shaped around it to form the curved surface which mimics the bases edge and the flat surfaces. I used elastic bands to hold all this in place whilst the PVA set. If you try this ensure that the curved panel has the grain running perpendicular to the direction of curve, otherwise it won't bend! Pics...
Whilst that was drying I started on the Hornet itself, all the bits washed to remove that nasty mould lubricant (the bane of paint!)...
I started on the next new technique for me; magnetising weapons. I have to say it wasn't anywhere near as hard as I'd expected and it will give me huge tactical choice at almost no cost. The magnets are inset into the joints in holes I drilled, carved and filed out very carefully. I used a total of 8 little magnets on the model, the weapon cowling magnetises to the outside of the gun so the gun has 2 magnets, that's 4 on each side. I also ensured that I used the same polarity all round so that any weapon can fit to either side of each vehicle. I'll just have to remember that when I start the next vehicle! Pics of the magnetisation...
Next step was to build the pipework sections to fit onto the base, these plastic pipes are from Nightwing International and are part of their model railway scenery range. They're injection moulded plastic on sprues, each set contains loads of bits and poly cement works a treat. It's a nice modular system allowing almost infinite variation. Pics of the pipe sections and the base with the balsa section dried and coated with a thin skim of plaster to give a nice concrete finish...
Then it was back to Hornet to fit the engine intake and thrusters to the main body...
Once the plaster was dry I did dry runs with all the elements to get the positions right, I built the hiding guardsman, who's lost his helmet, lasgun and canteen in his dash for safety and is left with just a frag grenade and a trenching tool to fight off the raiders!
He's stood on mesh walkway (The mesh is the aluminium mesh sheet used for repairing car bodywork and suchlike, dirt cheep from my local hardware store) supported on plastruct girder. Before fitting the mesh I painted the base below in deep greens and swirls of Nurgles Rot; the black base will all be painted in this way and will have a coat of a couple of mm of water effects applied at the end (This will entail me making a snug polythene mould around the base edge to hold the liquid whilst it sets).
Here's the finished build from a few angles, the Hornet, pilot, canopy, guardsman and his loose gear are all un-glued so I can paint all the bits separately.....
That's it, I'm really pleased with it and can't wait to see it painted. More posts to come as that progresses, as ever C and C welcome.
