Blood Bowl Fever!........Dwarves, W.I.P.

Hi All

Bluddtoof here with an update on my blood bowl painting progress.
I've put the orcs on the back burner until GW release a Troll, gobbos and the orc team box; I want the official figures for that team.
The Dwarves are a perfectly playable team straight out of the box so I've moved on to them for now.

So first up...... lets talk about that huge elephant in the room!.....

BEARDS!!! I'll say it again... BEARDS!!!

I love em! Even the troll slayers ridiculously huge trailing monstrosities which appear to have been possessed by some form of magical spell from an errant side line wizard and are now capable of propelling themselves and the troll slayer down the pitch!!
I understand why a lot of people don't like em but I do and there's been plenty of hate for em in the web community so nuf said I think.

The rest of the teams beards are probably the best bit of the sculpts in my opinion, really nicely done and good to paint. As for the rest of the models (and this goes for all the new bb stuff I've bought so far) the sculpts are generally nice, not up to GW's usual high standard, but good nonetheless, with a few minor exceptions; around the feet they often lose distinction making it hard to see where shoe, sock and pants start and end. Also on one of the dwarf blockers, the head and shoulder don't quite match where the right shoulder pad is concerned and some of the head/hair connections are a bit ropey.

However......

Considering that this is a nice introduction game for new customers and the figures are designed to be push fit and the price is significantly less for a team box than for a typical 40k troop choice box with equivalent model count, then I don't really have any serious complaints. And I'm enjoying painting em!

So here's a few wip piccies of the work I've done so far, following through the process...

I took the team to this stage, the blue is Tamiya metallic blue; a nice colour but the paint has a slightly oily texture making it challenging to use. Then I decided to take 1 model to a finished state to see if the scheme worked...

and some stills including extra work on the team and counters...

Another vid of the single miniature mostly done...

And the current state of the team....

The bases are just GW textured paint; astrogranite, with black wash and lots of dry brushing, they'll be finished off with some patchy snow and blood stains and the team will get a little weathering.
I've also got a plan for a modelled dugout including beer barrel counters and a bar full of cheerleaders and assistant coaches!
Pleased so far with these and not a huge amount left to do, as ever c & c welcome.

The Great British Build Off - Pre Heresy Death Guard - Masses Now Built, Re basing - Big Jump Forward!

Hi All,

DOC here to showcase a big leap forward on the construction of the pre heresy death guard.  Here follows a giant picture dump showing all the models I have built for the death guard.

Heavy Support Squad (troops for death guard with the rite of war mmm rockets)

Volkite Culverin Support Squad (nice to have some different weapons to 40k)

Command Squad - close combat squad nice to use some of those lovely mkIII power wepon bits

Legion Tactical Squad -fleshed out and sergeant added with a power fist

I have also in the build process re based a load of my death guard on to 32mms.  These are 40k marines as I will use this army in 40k as a space marine army.

Sternguard Vets - The best spare bit kit in the GW range!

Devastators - Mixed bag made from my bits box but all good!

Vanguard Vets and Chaplain - great models and again loads of bits!

So having bought 100 32mm bases I have no used them all up and ordered another 50.  I really am aiming to get this into a usable state before the painting begins.

Comments are welcome

Cheers

Ho Ho Ho Horus Heresy - Pre Heresy Death Guard, Back to the start again now go....

Hi All,

So as I said in the launch post I will be focussing in on my Death Guard.  I have already had 3 or 4 false starts on this army and I still don't have the paint scheme down in particular and it keeps evolving as techniques, equipment and the amount of time I have changes.

So thinking we aim to play our first heresy game the first thing is to try and get a use-able force i reckon.  At this stage I have Typhon built, a couple of praetors, 5 death shrouds, 1 fully painted mortis pattern contemptor dread and a load of infantry a various stages.

First thing I think I need lots of infantry that's how I envisage death guard.   I already had some built, a few painted and so on.  However, with the introduction of 32m bases I think marines look so much better on these size bases so I decided as my starter to this years work I would re base what I have onto 32m's.  I also decided to base my rapier to match it all together.

A few pics....

So this is my progress thus far.  You can see a couple of painted models within this collection. However, the method I have used to paint the models so far is really slow and time consuming.  With the purchase of an air brush I intend to try a couple of alternative methods to see if I can speed up the process.

The two methods I am going to try are:

Primer,
Wash recesses
White
Details and other colours
Decals
Weather

or

Primer
White
Wash recesses
(probably need white again)
Details and other colours
Decals
Weather

I will have to wait and see how this compares and whether or not this cuts down the three or 4 coats of white I was doing by hand.  The critical stage is the recess wash if I can be tidy with it less additional stages will be needed. Any thoughts people of the tinternet or code folk?

Remember all its HO HO HO Horus Heresy this Christmas...

Thats all for now folks

Doc Out.
