Everybody's Blood Bowl Mad!!!

Hey guys and girls - Bristles here with a quick update on what's been going on in my hobby world recently.
As per the title, it seems the Code have all gone Blood Bowl crazy and I've got the bug big time....

With my Dark Elf Core Team pretty much all finished I wanted to have a shot at doing some of the other models to represent my manager, apothecary etc so I began scouting around for suitable models.

I figured the Dark Elf Scorceress model was an obvious choice for my Head Coach model...

For my Apothecary however I was a little more confused, that is until I saw something on a shelf and had a rather silly epiphany.....

The model is 'The Changling' from the AOS range but I replaced the plastic smoke with a slightly different effect after getting advice from Boss Bluddtoof and Inner Mech and how to go about it. Tbh I'm damn proud of how it's turned out and think he is one of my best, certainly one of my most enjoyable little projects.

Anyway - here's a quick team photo to finish with

I've still got the Blood Bowl bug and have already decided on my next team build.....I'm just hoping it doesn't bleed me dry.................

Thanks for reading :)

MkV Mortis Pattern Dreadnought; Thunderbolts Space Marines

Hi All

Bluddtoof here with a little update on my most recent work; a re-arming of a very old dreadnought. I think this was in fact the 2nd dreadnought I originally painted for my marines something in excess of 10 years ago!
Up until a last year he was a venerable dreadnought armed with an assault cannon and a massive hammer clenched in his power fist, this counted as a power fist and was from way back when I started this army and Marine forces could take traits, I can't remember which edition but the marine codex has changed somewhat! Anyway I used to field a great many thunder hammers, the fluff being that the thunder hammer was a symbol of office for most characters (I'd even converted my old termy Librarian to have a force hammer), I liked hammers I think!
Early in 2015 I decided to update my collection of dreads to have a broader range of weapons, at the time I had 4 venerables with assault cannons. the upshot of all this was a range of dreads (9 at the time) with lots of variety. The big hammer moved onto an Ironclad as a seismic hammer and I was left with this original metal venerable dreadnought with no arms. I figured 9 dreads was sufficient even for the most dread obsessed player! Incorrect! I can NEVER have sufficient dreadnoughts!
So a few months ago I decided to get number 10 armed and active; I'd been long considering a Mortis Contemptor but had just never got round to it, so having recently purchased the Imp Armour book War Machines of the Adeptus Astartes (new version) and already having a quad autocannon mortis mkv I decided to upscale to quad lascannons for that extra punch.
My bits boxes provided me with lots of spare lascannons from many kits, predators, razorbacks, dreadnoughts, flyers and landraiders. The only twin linked ones were from the predator kit but didn't really suit as they are just barrels sticking out from a curved mounting suitable for a turret, not really an arm.
I finally chose to use the landraider lascannons as they had complete power lines and generally looked the best. Admittedly they are pretty huge but I kind of like that, he looks like he means business. It was a simple task to file down the side panels of the lascannons so they would butt up together nicely to form a twin linked pair. The original hole for mounting to a side sponson served well, with a little enlargement, for mounting the pair onto the original shoulder pin, and hey presto...... twin linked lascannons at zero cost! Win!

Pics...

The painting involved a little touching up of the original model where the knife had slipped during the conversion process and some adjustment of original colours (10 to 15 years old!) to match closer to the new paints. I also added a smoke launcher, spotlight and a gothic looking gubbins to represent the helical targeting array.
Overall well pleased for a cut and shut job.
Welcome to the Thunderbolts forge, revered ancient!
That's 10 ready to roll, and number 11 on the way! More on him in the very near future...

C and C welcome as ever....

Taurox Prime - Video The Build conversion using Victorian Minatures Parts - Arming for The Cypra Incident

Hi All,

Doc here back with some more Cypra Incident coverage and a bonifidy first for the blog a video! Yes I have taken the plunge and dared to put my ugly mug on camera but before I do that.  Whats this Cypra Incident you may be thinking?  So if you are new to our narrative campaign check back to the following:

Launch Post

Orks Introduction Post

Orks Bikers Post

My list for the 2nd tier mission uses a Taurox which up until a couple of weeks ago I didn't own.  So off I went and ordered one from my FLGS Worcester Wargames and also ordered wheels and a suspension kit all the way from Australia via Victoria Minatures.  So being as I wanted to test my video skills or complete lack there of I thought I would do a short explanation video on the tank.  See below and go gentle on the comments I am a NEWB!  Any advice on editing and so on go for it.  For info this is filmed on an IPAD mini I cannot afford any spangly video equipment.

Feedback is welcome,

Cheers

Adeptus Astartes - Trained by Mars

Evening All,

So as the title may have alluded to this post is all about the select few marines who get trained by the adeptus mechanius to work with machines.  I have been itching for ages to get some built for a couple of my armies and have been hoarding parts for this purpose for some time.

First up is a basic techmarine picked up by red mist (thanks bud) on ebay.  Clearly a paint stripped model I am looking forward to bringing back to life on the table top.

Next up is a converted techmarine on bike carrying an auspex (I hate over watch!).  Again the biker was picked up by innermech of all people and he gave him to me saying he would be good for your techmarine on a bike (Yes you are correct bert many thanks!).

I have used Iron warrior back pack parts to convert up the servo arm.  Really pleased with this simple conversion.

Last warrior to be trained by Mars is a new Iron Priest.  I have been again planning this for some time.  Like the techmarine on bike the back pack is made using Iron Warrior parts.  The chest plate and shoulder pad are tech parts too showing the correct iconography.  To go alongside the Iron Priest he has 4 converted cyberwolves.  These are simple conversions of the Waargs from the GW lord of the rings range given to me by Hendrix (cheers!).  There appears to be lots of bits accumulated for these projects from many within the code group.

Last on this post I have also based up a load of wolves (former goblin wolf riders wolves) to make a load more fenrisian wolves.  This now takes me up to 40!

Hope you like the simple conversions comments are welcome.

Cheers

Midweek Snidbit - Objective Markers and Servo Skulls

Hi All,

Doc back with a little post to show my new objective markers for Maelstrom games of 40K.  These were inspired by Dales over on Realm of 40K here.

Nice and simple barrels numbered 1-6.  That should make the game easier.  Using dice never works somebody always picks one up!

The next thing I needed were some servo skull markers to go with my Inquisitor so I bashed these up out of the bits box and boshed them on code designs industrial bases.  Shameless plug time the bases can be purchased from Worcester Wargames.

Short and sweet that's all folks.  Next post Ill show off some of the armies from Worcester War 3.

Worcester War 3 - Nearly Ready... The Characters: Inquisitor, Rune Priest, Thunderwolf Lord

Evening All,

Doc here...  Haven't been on here for a while and in my absence I have been quite busy preparing for Worcester War 3 and working on my pre heresy death guard.   Ill save the death guard for another day.  So today's post is about characters in my army for the upcoming Worcester War 3.

Originally I had intended to go with the Death Guard but white takes so long to paint and I realised I wasn't going to make it.  So I have reverted to my space wolves.  Although the army is far off my current standards (in terms of painting quality) I wanted to add some new elements to go in it along with the fact the codex is also quite new.

I have been working of my Thunderbear (alternative thunderwolf) Lord.  If you want to read more about him please go here and here.  He's not quite finished but has progressed and will be finished by the end of the week.  It has to be finished the event is next weekend!

I have also converted up a new Rune Priest using the Dark Angel librarian from Dark Vengeance. Essentially I:

  •  cut off all the DA iconography
  • swapped his arm out
  • used a space wolf shoulder pad
  • used a space wolf back pack
  • added a space wolf knife
  • added a wolf pelt to the right arm
He's painted to match the rest of the army and was bashed out quite quick but I'm happy he will match in with the other space wolves

Next up I decided to make use of the inquisitor codex for the first time and my fellow code player Red Mist hooked me up with this Inquisitor (Thanks buddy).  I've gone for the classic inquisitor colours of red and black.  Again painted quickly  but a good result for the amount of time and I wanted him on the table.

All this leaves me to be ready for next weekend is to finish the thunderbear and convert up 3 servo skull markers.  I may also make myself some 1-6 markers for maelstrom missions.  As always comments and constructive criticism is welcome.

Thats all folks

Making a New Thunderwolf (bear) Lord

Hi All,

Doc is back to talk about my new thunderwolf mounted space wolf lord.  One problem with that statement he's actually mounted on a bear!  I'm a big fan of using alternative models to make my army stand out if possible.  So last year I went down to London and went in Dark Sphere and picked up Scibor's Celtic Lord mounted on a bear.

Dread-full December; Space Ork Mega Dread, The Build........ Part 1.

So this is my first entry into the Code40k "Dread-full December" event; my Ork Mega Dread!
For a start this a great kit and once built looks v. cool! It took a lot of building and suffered from some of the more common issues with resin kits but with judicious pinning and patience it came out as I wanted.
I'm going to show step by step how I built this, so first here's the finished build;

And now I'll go through each step with piccies (Take it as read that each piece is trimmed of flash, filed, sanded as required and washed in warm soapy water before any gluing commences).
All pinning uses 1.20mm (18 gauge) uncoated jewellery wire and 1.00mm drilled holes using a pin vice.

The Legs;

These are quite complex structures and I would highly recommend dry runs before you even trim the mould lugs off as you may decide you want to use some of this excess resin in the finished structure. Each leg comprises a foot piece, lower leg, knee joint pin, upper leg piece and several pistons which stick on but are not structural. The knee pin is designed to fit through holes in both leg sections at the knee joint and thus allow a movable joint; in reality as there is no movement in the lower leg/ankle joint I saw no point in this knee movement and also you need to drill the holes for the pin to go in. Instead I chose to chop the heads off the pins and fix the knee joints in place with metal pins for strength, the resin pin heads were then glued on where the pins would be.
The next 2 photos are the lower legs and feet with pinning holes and pins showing prior to fixing;

This is all the subassemblies for the legs and pelvis prior to trimming and fixing;

You can see above the locator holes in the upper leg sections where you would need to drill a hole for the supplied knee pin, quite a large diameter hole (3 or even 4mm if I remember right). I drilled and pinned the joints off centre from those dimples and thus could use the solid resin of the lower leg section, the pin heads are quite large and covered up the new pins location, sanded smooth the sections fit snuggly and were glued to create a strong joint.
The upper leg sections have moulded lugs which locate in dimples in the pelvis piece, it is important to point out that at this stage you can alter the final pose of the model by changing the orientation of the pelvis section relative to the upper legs, i.e. by leaning it forwards or backwards. To do this simply remove the lugs and pin the assembly in the position you require, the natural position gives a pose which has the torso leaning forward slightly, I was happy with this and so kept the lugs in place. Note that this is the only joint that allows such positioning, later assemblies allow no movement of the torso forward or backwards!
I used additional pinning in the pelvis joints because this section will support the models full weight and will also take a lot of stress if the model is picked up by any part above the pelvis. All 3 pieces are quite large and solid so could take nice long pins.
Here's the leg assembly completed;

The Torso and Shoulders;

This section comes in several parts too; main torso, engine block, 2 shoulder joints and teef plate. Here you can choose the torso's position relative to the leg assembly by rotating its large bottom lug within the pelvis. The join between torso and pelvis took a lot of sanding and filing to get a true fit.
Here's the torso and shoulder joints with pins shown;

Again you need to carefully decide on the positioning of these pieces as they will determine the position of the arms and also where the large shoulder guards will sit in relation to the torso, try dry runs. I positioned mine so that the ripper klaw arm would be raised above the torso and lunging down on its target, with the kilkannon arm held level.
MOST IMPORTANT: Don't fix the shoulder plates to the torso yet, it's better to leave them off so you can construct the arms on the them later and paint the arms before fixing in place, you may also want to keep the arms interchangeable if you've splashed out on extra arms. At this stage just drill your pin holes as required.
Next is the joint between torso and engine block, a straightforward joint with just a little sanding required to be flush, a pin helps to give strength to the joint;

The Teef plate also fits simply with lugs and dimples, again I recommend pinning to give strength;

Here is the torso section constructed and fitted onto the legs;

The joint between torso and pelvis was solid enough to not require a pin, however you should make that decision yourself based on the mould quality of your kit.
In the last photo above you can see the pin holes I drilled in each of the 8 cylinders to mount the piston heads on later. This was a decision I made after the construction of the torso, in hindsight they would have been easier to drill before hand.

Engine Gubbinz;

These are the exhausts and piston heads, the exhausts needed a little work to get them to fit snuggly, a little cutting and filing and 1 was a little warped, but they're thin enough to shape using just the warmth from your hands.
I used a single pin for each piece, 1 to join the 2 part exhaust;

The 2 part exhaust has no guide holes at all so a pin is essential. I found a pin in the top of the 3 pipes on each exhaust was the easiest to work with and was sufficient to give a strong bond. The pipes all fit snug into their recesses and just required some filing and sanding.

This is the finished engine block with a piston head fitted to each cylinder;

Starting to look proper Orky!

Da Big Shootas;

The kit comes with 2 rotary cannon style big shootas, in the codex entry you can swap these for a variety of other weapons and can also add a third big shoota, none of which come with the kit. I want mine to have 3 big shootas so I used the 2 from the kit and added a third from my bitz box.
The 2 from the kit are simple to build and fit either side of the torso, they were located with a short pin into the ammo feed box;

The third big shoota needed a little work to give the model a personal touch, don't want it to look like any other meks work do I!?  The position of the 3rd big shoota had me thinking for a while, crotch mounted just wasn't right, the waist was taken by the other shootas and neither arm had a suitable mounting position. I considered shoulder mounted as both shoulder plates are v. large and have plenty of space but I'd already decided that I wasn't going to fit the pilot coming out of the hatch as I am firmly in the school of thought that Ork Dredd pilots are welded, nailed, tied, glued or otherwise permanently fixed inside their new stompy machine and would have absolutely no desire or interest in getting out even if they could!! So the obvious place to mount the 3rd gun was on top of the torso, in place of the hatch, with control connections coming out of the torso. A little plasticard and some tubing later the 3rd gun was fitted;

The 3rd big shoota is from the Forge World "Ork Weapon Set". A little chopping and filing and I quite like the effect.

That's part 1 of the build. In part 2 I'll show how I built the primary arm weapons. Part 3 will cover the painting.
