Massive congrats to Paul Skins Bedford on winning best painted!  Painting results are here:

I would also like to share other articles on the event from the Six up Save Guys:

I would also like to thank Lance Wittenburg for taking some great photos and being a thoroughly nice chap!  His Flickr link is:

Thanks to all who made the day great...

So a few thoughts or statements on what I thought of the day, some of these may be obvious some not so obvious....

We should start earlier Andy adjusted my original times to a 9.45am start time which is way too late everyone was there at 9.00am!  So I recommend registration from 8.30 to 9.00.  Conversely 6.30pm is too late on a Sunday with work the next day.  So recommend a 5.30 finish time from now on.

The format of mixing players up a little I felt worked and on reflection all the trepidation me and Andy had to deal with regarding this was unnecessary.

I had the usual suspects asking too many questions and accusing others.  This for me is the elephant in the room!  This is something I'm going to think long and hard on in the future and how I handle it. I even had one table asking for a ruling and then applying the exact opposite to what I had said!  The reality is it is toy soldiers nothing more than that so I cannot understand people taking it too seriously.

The other thing is list building from looking at the lists I had a pretty good idea who was going to place well and in this I was correct.  However, we also had a number of new players who are innocent to this style of play and it showed out in the lists.  Six up save as a group have the most experience and it showed in the final results.  So tip your hat to those guys and for the rest you need to up your game!   I still am not inclined to change the way the rules are written with regards to lists I feel Maelstrom in particular levels this off.

That's enough of my ramblings.  Important to say overall I enjoyed the event and hope you did also!

Cheers

That's all Folks!

Imperial Knight Freeblade, some more WIP

Hi All

So with all the planning for WW4 done I find myself with some time on my hands; when I'm not building hen houses and pens or digging holes in the garden that is.
I've returned to work on my Imperial Knight Freeblade, not much left to do and I hope to bring him to WW4 for some post campaign friendly action. Both shoulder pads and the right arm still to go now.
Here's a few shots of the model so far...

I've fixed the now complete left arm in place, after much thought and experimenting with magnets, I found that magnetising the shoulder pads was just too much effort for the benefit of having removable arms. When it comes to transport I'm going to make some custom cases to fit each knight I make specifically. Also being pretty big and cumbersome I'd rather maintain their structural integrity on the table.
That's it for now, I'll be doing more on this in the next couple of weeks, stay tuned for more WIP and the final showcase.

Worcester War 4 - Fortification of The Code - Change of Plans

Morning All,

After feedback on the format and number of players finding availability for the chosen date difficult we have decided to change the format for Worcester War 4.

The Event:

The code40K team present our fourth event: Worcester War 4, “Fortification of the Code”. We have space for up to 24 players who will form two teams; Good and Evil, these teams will compete in 2 rounds of 7th ED 40k working in pairs or alone depending on numbers and to be determined on the day. You will be attempting to gain control of secret data packets hidden in an abandoned underground complex in order to provide your forces with an advantage in the final event in this story; “Assault on the Code” which will be held sometime in 2016.  This event follows on directly from the events played out during Worcester War 3; please note participation in WW3 is NOT required for entry into this event.

Worcester War 4 follows on directly from our last event, Worcester War 3, which saw a widespread conflict spread across the 5th planet of the Lentarum system; a backwater Imperial colony near The Maelstrom in the Ultima Segmentum.

The day saw 24 players fight for dominance and control of a psychic beacon which had sent a mysterious signal throughout known space. In the end the beacon was claimed by the forces of chaos in the form of a Nurgle Daemon force!

If you're interested in joining us, the event is on Saturday 6th June 2015 at Whittington Village Hall. Entry fee is £15 and includes lunch and refreshments through the day.

Please e-mail mrtweedy_77@yahoo.co.uk to check if places are available and sign up to take part.

The rules pack can be viewed here

The deadline for entry is Sunday 31st May 2015

Hope to see you there.

Worcester War 4; The Assault on The Code

Hi All

It's that time of the year again!
Time for The Code 40K Gaming event!

Now the war rages on and the forces of Good are ready for one final push!

Worcester War 4 will see the final assault on a heavily defended position, held by the forces of Evil!! by an alliance of Good forces.

We will be playing a single massive multi player game of 7th Ed 40K, over a large C shaped board made of 9 standard 6' tables joined end to end. You will fight either for Good or Evil over this defensive perimeter and then the game will culminate on a 2nd table representing the primary objective. Events on the perimeter will directly effect your chances on the final objective.

We have space for 30 players, if you're interested in joining us, the event is on Saturday 6th June 2015 at Whittington Village Hall. Entry fee is £15 and includes lunch and refreshments through the day.

Please e-mail mrtweedy_77@yahoo.co.uk to check if places are available and sign up to take part.

Rules pack is available here

Hope to see you there.

Warhammer Fest

Hey guys and girls, Mike has kindly asked me to contribute to this blog so I thought I'd offer up a few words on what's been going on in my hobby world lately!

Firstly, let me introduce myself, my name is Tom Baker (no, not that one...) and I'm the guy behind the Battered Bristles Facebook page - although hopefully some of you know me better from the fabulous Worcester War tournaments I've attended the over the last couple of years. If I've had the fortune to play any of you in a game then that's excellent, if not, then hopefully I'll be able to throw some dice down with you at another tournament soon!

Anyway - what I want to say a few words about is Games Workshops newly repackaged Gamesday - now called Warhammer Fest - held this year at the Ricoh Arean in Coventry. (On a side note, I wonder if the event renaming has anything todo with the trialed renaming of 3 Games Workshop stores across the UK now being simply called Warhammer?)

I confess it was with some trepidation I booked for this event as whilst I enjoyed last years, I was not blind to some of the (quite fairly) abuse levelled at it. I've not been back into the hobby for that long and the 2013 event was the first my friend and I had attended in a long long time and as such, it was with wide eyes and almost childlike awe we spent the first few hours walking around looking at all the pretty things! But then it dawned on us there wasn't actually much to do or see and with over half of the main floor given over to sales, the event quickly began to feel more like a giant sales pitch.

Allow me to just intercede here for one moment to clarify a quick point - I love GW. I love the models they make and the game systems they create to push thier product. I'm also acutely aware that they are first and foremost a business and their prime directive is to sell products to stay profitable and remain in business feeding me lots of shiny toys.

Anyhow. Fast forward to 2014 and wow. It almost appears that GW have been guilty of that Cardinal sin - they appear to have listened to their customers! Warhammer Fest sort of appeared out of the warp with very little fuss, quietly appearing as if from nowhere with everybody asking "what is this Warhammer Fest of wich you speak?". The event was completely unrecognisable to that of the previous year! Firstly - it's was calm, ther was space to move, sit and take a moment. With the event split over 3 floors, the first floor allowed you to enter the area, be gifted a program and ticket badge before heading to grab a coffe and a (nicely cooked, fairly priced) burger and grab a seat after driving for over an hour as my friend had done. Then - if you wished - you could enter the 'sales' part of the event. Behind doors, out of immediate sight, with no pressure to enter unless you wished there was a huge room dedicated to GW / the Black Library and Forge World. I snagged myself a nice limited print of Vulkan for my hobby room and even a (supposedly sold out) pack of limited edition data cards for the Dark Eldar for a friend. Hell, there were even about 5 or 6 gaming tablesset up, free for people to use if they so wished!

The middle floor was given over to the guys and girls behind White Dwarf, showing fantastic artwork from upcoming books and magazines whilst also having many of the writers on hand with their armies more than happy to have a chat and talk through pretty much anything you cared to level at them. Again, no queuing per say, just people moving freely around taking their own time. Great.

The top floor was however all about Forgeworld and boy did these guys steal the show. Fantastic dioramas showing the battle of Calth and a ship battle showing the Iron Hands batteling off Imperial Fist boarders really got the imagination running! There where staff on hand again all over the floor to talk about the new releases being previewed in the cabinets or holding demenstration pods to sit and explain how to do such things as 'weathering vehicles' or 'painting an army quickly'. Very quick, easy to watch videos with the actual forge world artists talking you through the steps in person. Beautifully done.

Then there was the Golden Demon event itself. The standard this year was just phenomenal - I can only assume with no other Golden Demon events running in any other country (Warhammer Fest was a UK only show) that the best of the best from around the world must have all come together on the one day because the level of entries was just outstanding. I entered a couple of models myself but against the completion I came away completely empty handed - but with a burning fire inside to create something special for next year!

All told a fantastic day and I'm very much excited by next years prospects!
But that's enough from me for now, if you've managed to read this far then I thank you for reading my first post in its entirety - I shall endeavour to brush up on my writing skills and post again in the near future with a sneak peek at something special I'm working on at the moment!

Thanks again - until next time.

August Annihilation - Worcester Wargames

Hi All,

Doc here to talk about an event I helped run for Worcester Wargames August Annihilation a 1500pt Swiss System 40k tournament.  This was the first event I had been involved in since 7th came in.  We decided to let everything in and follow the rules laid down by GW.  This meant we had knights, a titan and forgeworld galore.  Overall I think it worked on the whole.  I think the titan is a different matter and maybe still overpowered.  Most of knights across the tables seemed to be handled.

Before I get onto the results I want to talk about the rules pack a little.  Over the years I have tried many different methods of getting a fair overall result.  In this event we used a simple scoring system of 10pts for a win, 3pts for a draw and 0 for a loss.  We then used the total sum of the vp's to decide ties.  As you will see in the results we had a couple of ties which the VP's sorted.  The element that really decided however, was the painting points....

Points
Requirement
0
No Models are painted within the army.
1
At least two units are fully painted to 3 colour minimum standard and based
2
The whole Army is painted to 3 colour minimum standard
3
As above, plus bases are themed. Units markings and transfers applied.
4
As above, painting standard includes clear shading and highlighting.  Includes at least one conversion
5
As above, Blows our mind.  Includes extra techniques such as freehand, weathering and Object Source Lighting

The table above shows the scoring system we used to decide painting points.  Myself and Andy scored every army based on the table above and agreed on every army except one.  An average of the two scores was then added to the players overall score.  This granted up to an extra 5 gamer points meaning players could then score between 0 - 35 pts and then Vp's would be used to decide ties.  I the end the painting points decided the event.  Player 1 and 2 both won all 3 games.  However player 1 scored a 5 for painting and player 2 a 3.  I'm not sure if I am comfortable with painting deciding the event.  It is after all a gaming event not Golden Demon.  On the other hand it is also a major part of the hobby.

Ok on to the final results:

A downloadable version is available here for those who would like to save it for prosperity.  Next I would like to ask some feedback questions and would ask people to comment below their responses?

1. Titans Yes or No?
2. Painting Points Yes or No?
3. Use Maelstrom Missions Yes or No?

The 40k event held in Worcester will be our own Worcester War 3 and this post wouldn't be complete without a shameless plug.  If you want to read all about it please go the announcement post here.  I am certainly looking forward to it as I come out from the organisers position to take part.

That's all from me folks please comment and help make future events better!

Cheers

Worcester War 2 - Only 4 Weeks To Go........

Hi All,

So at time of writing we have 4 spots remaining at Worecster War 2.  That means 26 players bearing down on Whittington Village Hall on the 8th Feb for geek fun.   I'm excited for our second event.  I think some of the lessons learned from the first event will now bear fruit and I'm looking forward to Inner Mech joining me in the organising stakes.  So with 4 weeks to go what does that mean.....

Well the players will be frantically finishing the painting and army lists.  I look forward to seeing those a good week before the event wink wink nudge nudge!  As for the organisers Me and IMech will be playing with a big saw at the weekend whilst we make some additional boards for the event.  We are also working very hard on some new scenery which I look forward to showcasing in the run up to the event.

The rules pack for the event is available here.

More coming soon

Code40k is Proud to Present Worcester War 2

Morning All,

DOC here back to announce CODE40k's second event aptly named Worcester War 2.  The event will be held on Saturday the 8th February 2014 so plenty of time to get painting and plotting.  The event gives players the opportunity to play 3 games of 40k at 1500pts.

We have taken the opportunity after the success of the first event to make things better!  Firstly the event will increase to 30 players.  Next we will put food on for the day following on from feedback from the first event.  There are some rule changes which will be discussed over the coming weeks after I have given people the chance to digest the rules pack.  Needless to say they are aimed at making the event easier to run and participate in.  Lastly and importantly we will have two organisers myself and Innermech to make it easier for us to help you guys enjoy your day.

For this event we also have 2 sponsors Worcester Wargamers (many thanks to Andy the store owner) and Codedesignsuk both of which will be providing prizes for the event.

Ok on to the pretty bit the poster:

Please feel free to share this :-)

Next the most important part the link to the rules pack and how you book your place is here:

Please post any questions you may have in the comments or send me an email, look forward to seeing you there.

Code40k's Next Event: Thoughts on what that may look like.

Hi All,

Doc here, so a while back I promised to write some thoughts down on what it is like to run an event.  Well as per usual life has got in the way and it has taking me until now to get round to it.  Also its getting me round to the process of thinking about Worcester War II.

So after Worcester War we received quite a lot of positive feedback which was muchly appreciated!  However, like anything there were a few problems most notably I did not have a sound plan for when someone had to leave.  I ended stepping in to the breach...  this meant running and playing in the event.  This is not a good state of affairs and as such we will have two organisers in the next event to stop such a problem occurring again.

The other major cause of confusion was the scoring system using the old warhammer style victory points system.  This is where me the organiser playing was not good otherwise I could have gone to each table and helped the totting up process as they got to the end of the game.

Ok, so the next train of thought is when will we play another WW and where will it be held?  Originally we thought along the lines of November.  Due to family commitments and such this is no longer an appropriate time.  So now the proposal will be end of Jan'14.  A geek weekend to get rid of post Christmas and the weather is shocking blues!

Proposed Changes

The main change I think needed to the event (and I promote comments) is to the scoring system to simplify it?  Last time we used a simple 10 for a win, 3 for a draw and 0 for loss.  This gave us a
basic ranking for the players.  Obviously many players would then have the same score and require the use of warhammer victory points to separate the players on the same score.

I propose removing the warhammer points and using a bonus system to the points scored above:

+2pts for killing an independent character in a challenge.
+3pts for completing a secondary objective (these will be detailed in the rule pack but basically an extra little objective to go with the standard ones for the eternal war mission you will be playing)
+3pts for wiping out an opponent

-1pt for any unit which flees the battlefield (cowardice should not be rewarded!)
-3pts for being wiped out or conceding

This list isn't exhaustive thoughts people?

Another change I propose is to army composition to remove duplicate choices in elites, fast attack and heavy support sections.  I have read others thoughts around this particularly on from the fang who runs a successful blog wars event which is on to its 6th event now.  This will stop hell turkey lists amongst others and hopefully promote more varied army lists.  To coincide with this I will now ask for army lists to be sent prior to the event and approved.

Ok, so these are my thoughts at present, feedback is always welcome especially as this is not set in stone.  The aim would to be have the rules pack, date and venue set by the end of October.

In the meantime keep gaming people

Worcester War The Results

Hi All,

DOC here so WW13 has been and gone.... and what an event it was.  I intend to do a few posts on the back of the event.  One to discuss what I have learnt about running an event, one to showcase the pictures and this one to congratulate the winners / publish the event.

So the results sheets are available here:

Overall:

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_-44W3d5ZfaSGRFcXpvWUZmZTQ/edit

Painting:

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_-44W3d5ZfaWTM2U215X1NUbms/edit

Ok so pic fest time, first off a massive thanks to Dave C and Cherrie for taking the pictures and then sending them over to me.

So the overall winner was Mr Dave Metcalfe or Toonboy 78 as he is known on the blog.

That's Dave on the left and me pulling one wacky face on the right!  Dave is no stranger to winning events and announced before the event you might aswell put my name on the certificate now.  Well he lived up to the bravado.  Who will knock him off the perch at the code's next event?  Dave's army:

In 2nd place overall we have Mark Platt from Cheltenham Warchiefs.  Congratulations and thanks to all the players from the chiefs who came up for the day.  If you are from that area and fancy having games with a great bunch of guys their club website is here.

Who says close assault is dead in 6th!!!!!!!

Watch out for the fly by!!!

3rd Place Overall went to our own Luke Hemming or Lukodakka as he is known on the blog.  Luke also took home 2nd Place in the painting competition. So here is a small showcase of his army:

So on to the overall painting winner that went to our Matt Tweedy Thompson who is known as boss bludtoof on the blog so naturally he won with his orks right nope the emperors finest and chapter of his own devising the Thunderbolts lightning strike in:

Anti Air Dread!!

Ok so Luko finished 2nd in the painting as explained above and in 3rd place we come to Jason Band's Tau army or Red Mist as he is known round these parts.  Unfortunately Jason had to run off quickly at the end of the event as the picture will show.

Lastly but by no means least we have the most sporting opponent winner.  This was won by Kurt Lewendon from the Warchief's.  For me Kurt optimised the atmosphere of the whole event fun and friendly!

Well folks that's the run down of the winners at Worcester War 13.  We are currently in discussion to propose a winter war event in November time.  So I have masses of photos which I will be publishing in the future in other articles all that remains to be said is thanks for all those who attended.  I have learnt once again that which I already knew I cant pose for photos or can I..........

Ok picture fest time first off new terrain:

I would also like to show a friend of mines new Dark Angels work and his new terrain work.  PMR is returning to the hobby after 10 years away and we have all been impressed on the quality of his work when he hasn't painted for 10 years!  Also the fact that since January he's learnt the rules, painting up an army for the event, building a game board for the event and building and painting scenery for the event!  That's getting on with it!!  Enough of my ramble more pics!

Ok Folks that's all for now, more posts to come on the run up to WW13

Worcester War Update and Preparation

Hi All,

Firstly a little update on Worcester War so far we have 14 players booked in for the event.  Thanks for your great support.  We have another 2 possible players booking so if you would like to join our event please book up soon to avoid disappointment.  The details of the event can be found in this post:

http://code40k.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/code-40k-is-proud-to-present-worcester.html

Now on to the work I'm doing to prepare for Worcester War 2013.  For me the scenery when you go to an event is important.  So we need 10 tables worth of scenery.  Wooo that's a challenge and luckily the Code boys have a lot of experience and decent terrain amongst them.  I'm the proud owner of a realm of battlefield board from GW which I'm currently giving a new lick of paint for the event.  In addition even before we decided to have the event I had started some new terrain see here.

So since this post earlier in the year I have finished up a few new pieces.  First citadel woods... I love these sets and intend to add another set to my collection

So I went autumn which is just a bit different and will fit in with the scheme for the whole board.

Next up:  Aquilla Piece

Scatter Piece:

And I have 4 new buildings on the way:

And some new objective markers:

Finally I repairing all the battle damage on this little lot and trying not to annoy my wife too much with taking over this room completely!

Its going to be a busy but enjoyable few weeks....
