Deimos Pattern Vindicator with Laser Destroyer - The build

Evening All,

Quick post this evening to show my latest build project a laser destroyer vindicator. A few issues with the build not least the sides which slot together differently to standard rhino kits so watch out for that.  I currently have a plan to go into a build phase for my death guard before a tank batch paint to ensure I get a consistent finish.

Also just to note the next post in the series using the inter webs will hit this weekend and will be all about video battle reports.

Ok quick pick of the completed build:

Spartan Assault Tank - FW's Hardest Kit to Build?

Evening All,

Not been on here in a little while but have successfully built the hardest GW kit in the world the Spartan Tank.  More specifically the version before they changed the design and molded it with the tracks on.  I also made the mistake of trying to carry on with this when in a foul mood!  That as we all know simply doesn't work!

Anyway here is a few pictures showing the tank at various stages including the track bodge I ended up doing.  Once it is all painted and weathered I will cover up these issues.  For anyone else attempting this version of the kit GOOD LUCK.....

God Bless the elastic bands and the stolen from the better half hair bands!

Major track issues stemming from the front not being positioned right (during in the night in question!)

Picked the forgeworld brass etch for this tank.

The next two photos show the tank in primer and me starting to lay down the shadows.

Genuinely hated this build so glad it is out the way now.  This is not my current painting project but I will return to it in the next few months.

Thoughts on your experience with this kit would be interesting and also any good stories about when you should stop modelling might help!

Cheers

The Great British Build Off - Pre Heresy Death Guard - Masses Now Built, Re basing - Big Jump Forward!

Hi All,

DOC here to showcase a big leap forward on the construction of the pre heresy death guard.  Here follows a giant picture dump showing all the models I have built for the death guard.

Heavy Support Squad (troops for death guard with the rite of war mmm rockets)

Volkite Culverin Support Squad (nice to have some different weapons to 40k)

Command Squad - close combat squad nice to use some of those lovely mkIII power wepon bits

Legion Tactical Squad -fleshed out and sergeant added with a power fist

I have also in the build process re based a load of my death guard on to 32mms.  These are 40k marines as I will use this army in 40k as a space marine army.

Sternguard Vets - The best spare bit kit in the GW range!

Devastators - Mixed bag made from my bits box but all good!

Vanguard Vets and Chaplain - great models and again loads of bits!

So having bought 100 32mm bases I have no used them all up and ordered another 50.  I really am aiming to get this into a usable state before the painting begins.

Comments are welcome

Cheers

The Great British Build Off - Heresy Arms Race - Death Guard

Hi All,

So Ho Ho Ho Horus Heresy came and went and the code on the whole did badly.  We were saved by Toonboys brothers showcase of Primarchs which were fantastic!  I hope you enjoyed them I certainly did.  The fact still remains however, that us code boys are still sitting on a whole load of Resin - Innermech, Doc, Lukodakka and Redmist in particular.

So I was over Innermechs yesterday and to my surprise sat there were lots of built heresy models the lad had been really busy!  Not only that but he must be skint!

Anyway today I decided I would have a little go and build up a few more things!  Here goes:

5 more deathshrouds, this now gives me 10 of these built.  Although a warpage issue needs fixing as illustrated by the second photo!

Finished the build on my breacher sergeant now my mk3 close combat weapons have arrived.  I used the head from the rapier guy to make a better looking sergeant.

2 Apothecaries, every good death guard needs feel no pain right!

Praetors - alternative leaders for when you need them.  Put these guys on code design bases.

Contemptor number 2, haven't decided yet if I will magnetise the arms or not.  I have a power fist and plasma arm for this guy magnetised from first contemptor which is completed as a mortis pattern.  Tempted to order volkite arms for this one?

Not content with just doing heresy as Boss Bludtoof mentioned we are committed to a campaign.  So I have also been putting stuff together for the first two games of the campaign.  Being a cheepskate and guard are cheap I am making all the guard heavy weapon options from one box.  Today I built up the autocannons for the 19th Dicers Regiment.

I am currently formulating the background for this regiment.  I think I am going to play a regiment which is on the edge of slipping to chaos and have been sent to colonise a planet after a successful campaign against the 7th black crusade.  The planet is a bit of back end of the galaxy type and resentment to there honoured settlement rights is growing.  I will expand this background a little further once we get in to the campaign proper.

Right hope you like my great British Build off next time I will share InnerMechs Dark Angel builds I mentioned above.

Cheers

Death Guard Progress - Ho Ho Ho Horus Heresy 2015

Good Afternoon All,

This is a bit of a catch all post.  I will update progress or lack of on the death guard, a small review of the year and my usual 2016 objectives.

Firstly my heresy progress which has been hampered by man flu and uni work.  However, I have worked out the recipe which I suggested in my last post.

It will be light grey primer (ab), wash (hand) 45 degree white (ab), paint other colours (hand) and finally weather (sponge).  This is so much quicker than my last method by hand!

Here is the progress I made on 5 tactical legionnaires:

Early days for this squad but I feel I have finally sorted the 'how' bit out two years later!  Comments are most welcome and I will show some fellow code players at the weekend on our new years game.

I also built for the weekend some additional bloodclaws.  I mixed up the parts and used new kit, plus older parts and some metal bloodclaw shoulder pads.  Nice to be back to the wolves for a bit.  Shame I havent had time to throw some paint at them!

Right last year (or actually very early this year lol) I set my self simple objectives and they were to complete some in progress projects.  I did manage a few things this year.  Memory test time:

1 Stormwolf
1 Forgeworld Space Wolf Dread
ok failed already going back through blog posts!

1 Necron Artillery piece
1 Death Guard Graviton Rapier
5 Death Guard Marines

Blimey that is a terrible return compared to my normal output!  The reality is doing a masters at the same time as working full time and managing my health means I am not that upset.  So what about 2016?

2016 Objectives are (not all hobby related):

Spatial Planning Masters (2nd Year)
Adoption Match (my wife and I are approved fingers crossed at little one joins our family).

So the two above are going to slow down any hobby....

Necromunda Scenery
More Airbrush Practice
Story Campaign with Tweedy ahem (Boss Bludtoof)
Still record painting points but not against spend
Accurately record hobby spend
Log games played
Paint some death guard and space wolves.

All that remains to be said is Happy New Year to you all and I hope 2016 is fruitful, healthy and happy.

Peace Out

Ho Ho Ho Horus Heresy - Pre Heresy Death Guard, Back to the start again now go....

Hi All,

So as I said in the launch post I will be focussing in on my Death Guard.  I have already had 3 or 4 false starts on this army and I still don't have the paint scheme down in particular and it keeps evolving as techniques, equipment and the amount of time I have changes.

So thinking we aim to play our first heresy game the first thing is to try and get a use-able force i reckon.  At this stage I have Typhon built, a couple of praetors, 5 death shrouds, 1 fully painted mortis pattern contemptor dread and a load of infantry a various stages.

First thing I think I need lots of infantry that's how I envisage death guard.   I already had some built, a few painted and so on.  However, with the introduction of 32m bases I think marines look so much better on these size bases so I decided as my starter to this years work I would re base what I have onto 32m's.  I also decided to base my rapier to match it all together.

A few pics....

Legion Tactical Marines

Converted Sargent

Legion Heavy Support Squad

Based Rapier

Breacher Marine Bodies

So this is my progress thus far.  You can see a couple of painted models within this collection. However, the method I have used to paint the models so far is really slow and time consuming.  With the purchase of an air brush I intend to try a couple of alternative methods to see if I can speed up the process.

The two methods I am going to try are:

Primer,
Wash recesses
White
Details and other colours
Decals
Weather

or

Primer
White
Wash recesses
(probably need white again)
Details and other colours
Decals
Weather

I will have to wait and see how this compares and whether or not this cuts down the three or 4 coats of white I was doing by hand.  The critical stage is the recess wash if I can be tidy with it less additional stages will be needed. Any thoughts people of the tinternet or code folk?

Remember all its HO HO HO Horus Heresy this Christmas...

Thats all for now folks

Sicaran Tank - The Build / Battle Shots Necron vs Dark Angels

Evening Folks,

Doc here so a couple of things to share in today's post.  I have started work on a Sicaran battle tank for my Death Guard so I thought for a change I would share some pictures of the build and magnetising process for the sponsons.

First off as forgeworld kits go its a relatively simple build especially as there are no tracks to build with this kit unlike a Spartan which is a future build.  I have decided to go with Lascannon sponsons but magentise them so I can have a none sponson option if desired or needed as a points saving option.

So as I say pretty straight forward build yet still managed to glue myself to the hull.  Perils of superglue!  The last shot shows my mini dremel / rotary tool from maplin best £12 i've ever spent!  Its great for drilling, cleaning and cutting and takes the elbow work out of it all!

So for those who don't magnetise there really isn't much too it.  Work out how you line up the magnets on the two pieces you would like to magnetise.  Ensure you check the polarity of the magnets you need them to attract to each other (lol).  You will get it wrong at least once and curse!   Just drill the right size hole not too deep just enough to make the magnet sit flat with the adjoining surface.  I superglue magnets in place and use a plastic rod to adjust its position before the glue goes off which is usually very quick.  Dont be tempted to check the two pieces magentise too early as often one of the magnets will pull out of its position if not dry!

Ok, second part of this post I snapped a few shots of our big Dark Angels vs Maynark Necrons game. So close just 1 vp in it, a bloody late night and a great time. On that last point it doesn't look like Innermech was enjoying himself in one of the shots which made me laugh.

So who do you reckon won by 1 point folks?

Comments Welcome

Cheers
