Showcase; Thunderbolts Space Marines Stormraven and Strike Force Ultra.

Hi all,
Bluddtoof here with a showcase of my recent additions to my space marine chapter; the Thunderbolts.
With the new codex came some tasty new formations; the one that really jumped out at me was the Strike Force Ultra.
I absolutely love terminators and dreadnoughts and with a special rule called Force of a thunderbolt it was an easy sell really!
I had a game planned with Doc a few weeks in advance so I wrote a 2k list including a Knight ally and ordered myself a stormraven; the only model I didn't own yet. I also needed to paint up an extra squad of terminators.
So here's a few pics of the stormraven and the completed army....

That's it for now, c and c welcome as always, next project is a scenery set for the group. Future post to come on that.

Showcase; Imperial Knight Errant Freeblade

Hi All

Here are some pictures of my completed (almost) Imperial Knight Errant Freeblade. I say almost because I've still got some weathering to do yet. He'll have a mix of snow, ice and icicles eventually. I'm waiting on delivery of some bits and bobs I've ordered to do that. Once they arrive and I get it done I'll post finished pictures.
Meanwhile here's pics of the finished paintjob....

As you can see I've added Thunderbolts iconography and colour to the right shoulder guard to signify the knights current allegiance, I'll maintain this across all my future knights, all of which will be freeblades. All my knights will represent freeblades who have been attracted to the forge world protected by my space marine chapter, The Thunderbolts, an Iron Hands successor chapter. You can find a great many posts about my Thunderbolts Chapter of Space Marines in this bogs' archives.
I'm well pleased, this was a major project for me; not the biggest model I've done, that would be my scratch built Big Mek Stompa, but by far the most detailed and complex on such a large scale. In comparison the Stompa has a much more basic finish with significantly less detail.
With regard to the new techniques I've tried, I'm pleased; the OSL behind the visor hasn't quite worked but it hasn't been the disaster it could have been, more practice needed on that. The base has worked really well and I'm now completely sold on the idea of putting as much effort into the base as the figure. My work on the Eldar Corsairs has reinforced that for me, see them here.
The freehand vines and thorns I like and am really pleased with; I'll be going back to my Hornet to do some freehand work on that as soon as I've decided on the iconography for the band.
I hope you like this, please feel free to give C and C as usual.

Imperial Knight Freeblade, some more WIP

Hi All

So with all the planning for WW4 done I find myself with some time on my hands; when I'm not building hen houses and pens or digging holes in the garden that is.
I've returned to work on my Imperial Knight Freeblade, not much left to do and I hope to bring him to WW4 for some post campaign friendly action. Both shoulder pads and the right arm still to go now.
Here's a few shots of the model so far...

I've fixed the now complete left arm in place, after much thought and experimenting with magnets, I found that magnetising the shoulder pads was just too much effort for the benefit of having removable arms. When it comes to transport I'm going to make some custom cases to fit each knight I make specifically. Also being pretty big and cumbersome I'd rather maintain their structural integrity on the table.
That's it for now, I'll be doing more on this in the next couple of weeks, stay tuned for more WIP and the final showcase.

Imperial Knight Freeblade, WIP, work on the left arm

Hi All

Bluddtoof here with an update on progress so far on my 1st Imperial Knight Freeblade.
I've got most of the left arm done now, the Reaper Chainsword, just the 2 coloured panels to go.
I've got the hang of the cream and the red now and I can finish it much quicker.
Hopefully this model will be done in 2 weeks time so I can crack on with my Forgemas entry, for details of Forgemas; our December painting event see here.

Back to the wip, here's a few pics of the current state of play....

Very happy so far, a little more painting to go then some weathering on the complete model to finish, if anyone has tips for modelling/painting icicles I'd like some ideas....

Imperial Knight Freeblade, W.I.P, carapace on.

Hi All

Bluddtoof here with an update on the WIP of my Imperial Knight Freeblade.
As you can see I've now completed the upper carapace with lots of lovely thorny vines.
Here's a few piccies....

I'm now working on the arms and attempting to magnetise the shoulder pads so I can keep the arms removable. Tricky tho as the magnets I have are a bit large, I'll be sourcing some smaller ones.

That's it for now, more to come later...

Imperial Knight WIP, torso done and in place.

Hi All

I've finished the torso of the Knight and it's now fixed in place, after a little dry run to get the positioning right. Whilst doing the dry run with arms and shoulder pads in place I discovered that the arms cannot be removed if the shoulder pads are fixed in place as the overhang at front and back stops the arm assembly from fully rotating. So, once I get to the arms I'm going to have to decide if pinning the pads in place onto the shoulder frame will work, as that's the only way I'll be able to have removable arms. I like the idea of removable arms for purposes of packing and moving and also to represent weapon destroyed results.
Anyway enough of that for now, here's a few piccies of the Knight so far....

The next step is the top carapace, more on that to come soon....

Imperial Knight Freeblade, some more WIP.

Hi All

Bluddtoof here after a bit of a break to plan and run Worcester War III, which I must say went really well! A big thanks to everyone who came and made it such a great day, Worcester War IV "The Assault on The Code" is now in the preliminary planning stage and will be held Spring 2015, more to come on that in future posts.

Now on to the Knight; I started this a couple of months ago, you can see the previous posts hereherehere and here.

I'm well on the way to finishing the torso and head now, the upper carapace will be painted as a separate sub assembly for ease.

Here's a couple of pics of the torso so far,

more to come soon.

Imperial Knight Freeblade, Work in Progress.

Hi All

Time for another update on my progress with my Imperial Knight; I've finished the base and legs now apart from the final weathering which I'll be doing all in one go once the models complete so as to ensure I get a coherent and consistent finish.
Here's pics of it so far...

I'm pleased with the banner sculpt, I've not put the lightest highlights on the red and bone on it that you can see on the plating or the gloss finish, as the banner will  be a tattered piece of grubby cloth once the weathering is done, with the heraldry just showing through the dirt and grime of decades of war without the support of a knightly houses tech servants to repair it.
I've given all the gold trim another coat of Lamentors Yellow Glaze to bring it up a little more. The clenched fist is a transfer and the vines and thorns are all freehand.

Next step is to move onto the torso sub assembly, less plating on that so it should be a little quicker to paint.

More to come soon....

Revenge for The Blood God - Khorne vs Space Wolves

Hi all,

Red Mist here again with the updates on my Khone army as promised.
Doc and myself have had many battle over the years, one such game was a confrontation betwwen my Khorne Berzerkers and Docs Space Wolves.

After a lot of hacking the Wolves were victorious, but not I, as he cares not from whence the blood flows.

So a rematch was in order, and rematch we had 5000 pts each played over a day and night.

We started at 4000pts a side but my mid afternoon there wasn't a lot left so added in another 1000pts to take the game into the evening.

So without further ado here are some pics, enjoy.

Charge..... blood for the blood God!!!!

Crunch time... This bear rider was well 'ard.

Khorne loves a Blood Slaughterer... Wolves and Blood Claws do not... he ate them all!!!!

 See those puppies run... LOL

Doc and myself like to surprise each other, I had painted up a shiney new Chaos Land Raider for Kharn to ride in....

Unfortunately it ran into Docs new Knight... roll D-Weapon... Land Raider destroyed!!!

In charges Kharn, kill, maim, burn, no more Knight....

Kharn did fall but he will rise again!!!!

My army was joined by Lord Zhufor for the first time...

and he teleported into battle with his terminator bodyguard of Skulltakers ready to take skulls for the blood throne...

and lastly whats that over there, nnnnoooooo its a Baneblade! Result... dead Berzerkers.

Still in the end revenge was mine!!!

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!!

Hope you enjoy and more to follow, when I can get Doc to release the piccys.

RED MIST out!!!
