There has been some hobby progress - Showcase Death Guard Medusa

Evening All,

Doc here, I have been trying to write this blog post for a few days now and life seems to get in the way.  Anyway I please to be able to showcase my newly completed well since last Friday finished Medusa. This is my first tank for my death guard and I am happy with it.

This tank is on my Hobby Season list so I will also be awarding myself a giant purple sticker for the first time in quite a while hoorah....

I also snapped some work in progress pictures which I will share first up followed by the completed model.  Before I start though my first picture is my motivation to paint this army

This is a picture of a game played against Boss Bludtoof in Feb and boy has it got my goat.  This isnt me I paint my armies.  This will serve as a reminder forever more to get this army up and running!

So first off a build shot before priming and I admit they are slight pain with the canopy and the hair dryer was required to bend pieces into shape but we got there in the end.

Car park photo is next as I primed two of them, plus the scorpius and the LD vindicator at the same time.

I followed the same method of painting on this as my infantry prime vallejo grey wash agrax and 45 degree spray white.  I found this gives me a simple white armour to work from.  The photo above shows the washed stage and also sneak peaks another future project.

This shot shows the white applied and me starting to work up the metal, track work and the obligatory green stripe.

This shot is much further on with decals applied highlighting done, inside gun area completed.  For the most part this is a clean shot prior to weathering

This shot was just before completion and I lined up an infantry model for some comparison.  I think they work well together.

Completed shots here follow.  Only difference from above is crew added and weathering on the tracks plus a coat of Matte varnish.  I will say that is one thing I am not happy with the matte varnish dulled and in some cases removed the powder work.  So if anyone out there has any tips for sealing powders without loosing the dry effect please let me know in the comments.

I hope you like this completed model please leave me love below or constructive scorn.  On this basis I award myself a major  sticker as it is my first death guard vehicle.

Khemri Blood Bowl Team - Showcase

Evening All

Doc here with a showcase of my completed converted Tomb Kings / Khemri team.  They are all converted from the old GW range now out of production.  I will say this was a fun little project and I decided to complete a full 16 player roster (ever hopeful that I might get to that number).

So the rest of the post is going to be very picture heavy.....

Full team shot including converted turn, re roll and score markers

In action against skaven in my first game a 3-0 loss (eek) I will say they are a hard team to play at first

Ok so close ups

All my Lineman

Tomb Guard (yes I can start with 4 strength 5 blockers!)

Blitz Ra's (why Ra's its a throwback to how they used to be named in a previous version of the game)

Thro Ra's (one using the human ball and one the orc ball)

My converted counters (seemed easy to do using the bitz box)

So what do you reckon of the team comments are always welcome the base names have caused a split opinion amongst the code40k players what do you reckon needed or not?

Cheers All

Slaughter-Priest Dismember December Showcase by DOC

Hi All,

Happy New Year readers!  DOC here with my entry to our December event and we are now into January woops!  Anyway mine is somewhat of a rush job but he is at least finished.  It also the first time in many years I have not glued sand onto a base which was a nice change!  I used vallejo black lava which is a gritty paste.  I think it has worked out well base wise.  The model itself has been painted in standard Khorne colours with a simple base, wash and single highlight method.  I used this as a getting back into hobby piece having not painted since September.

In a couple of days I will put a voting post asking for all you fine readers to vote for your favourite of all the slaughter priests.

Anyway enough chatter here are some work in progress and completed pictures.

Finished Model:

Comments are most welcome look out for the voting post in the coming days.

Cheers

Dismember December - Slaughterpriest

Showcase - Dismember December
by Luko Dakka

Here is my take on Dismember December, although joking with the others, it should really be for New Years Evil as I was finishing this guy off on the eve of 2017.
Painting wise I used the airbrush for priming, base colours and the first and second highlight, enough to allow me to go in and do the detail work, edge highlighting.
Had a little blast with non-metallic metal, experimenting with a darker gold as it suits Chaos quite well I think. I simply use a great colour Vallejo Japanese Uniform, mixed in a little black and worked up to white. The red was done by painting black to white and then glazing thinned mephiston red over the top. The skin was Vallejo Heavy brown, highlighted by simply adding more white, a shade of umber wash was then applied to tone it down a bit and then a mix of tank brown and heavy brown was added to give a bit of depth to the muscles.

The base is cork for the rock and a fine detail filler was used between for the lava. This was airbrushed with Vallejo Italian Red, Hot Orange, Gold Yellow, Sunburst Yellow & the hottest spots with Ice Yellow/white. The rock was drybrushed Vallejo Black Grey and Light Grey and mephiston red slightly round the inner edges.
I really enjoyed painting this and it was nice having the freedom of a one off miniature to paint.
This has got me itching to get started on a neglected Silver Tower Boxed Set so that may pop up at some time.
Until next time
Cheers

Cerastus Knight Acheron Showcase - House Makabius

Hi all,

Doc here back with the finished knight as promised.  The weathering process was just a load of real fun and very dirty!  So on to some pictures and few salient points. Firstly also to thank Innermech for the loan of the light box.

All the previous posts on this project can be found here, here and finally here.

So the obligatory front on shot first.  The imperial knight helmet has been painted to match Boss Bludtoof's knight (just had to be! and for info his knight can be found here).  A couple of minor things remain to be done the symbol of allegiance and a coat of varnish to seal the powders down.

This view shows the knight crunching a barrel I envisage the barrel would literally be as flat as pancake after a knight stood on it but thought it broke up the base in a different way.  There are also bits of metal, grave stone, rocks, skulls and bushes dotted around the base.  On the shoulder pad the transfer has also been highlighted as I noted not all the transfers were highlighted,  I thought about blood on the reaper chainsword and then decided against it, although I might go back and add it.  What do you guys think?

On to the other side and certainly the hardest part to put together a whole load of patience to get the feeder tube in the right place and a lot of use and my wife's hairdryer.  Painting wise I went for the scorched look on the gun and then slowly reduced the burnt affect the further away from the barrel.

The back not so exciting but still lots of work.  This shot shows the spot colour of red I used on the pipes and shows a lot of the weathering off particularly on the tank and vents at the top of back.

Overall really happy with him let me have your thoughts people of blogosphere!

Cheers

Showcase; Deimos Pattern Relic Predator Executioner, Thunderbolts Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes.

Hi All

Finished my new predator executioner and very pleased with it too. I've swapped to Vallejo foundation white instead of Citadel ceramite white, it's not as opaque but it flows better off the brush and along with a new thinners; Tamiya X-20A, it's much easier to use. The final result is less solid white and allows the Fenris grey base coat to show ever so slightly giving the white a very nice blueish tint. I likes it! works nicely with the ice blue spot colour.

some piccies...

With the transfers and iconography I've stayed with the V for my chapters "5th forging"; the equivalent of a codex company, the Thunderbolts use a more flexible organisation than the rigid codex system due to their long affiliation with the adeptus mechanicus based on the forge world they established their fortress monastery on. This affiliation has led to their predilection for vehicles and a larger than usual number of tech marines. The chapters organisation is largely formed around the many forges they maintain and it is a rare force of Thunderbolts that does not contain a tech marine and his mechanical charges.

Next up for the Thunderbolts will be a Typhon heavy siege tank but first I'll be concentrating on my newly delivered Deadzone 2 goodies in the shape of some plague reinforcements and a new industrial scenery set which will probably see action in future instalments of our narrative campaign; The Cypra Incident.

Hope you like the new tank, C & C as ever welcome.

Showcase - Aegis Defence Line and Quadd Gun - Arming for the Cypra Incident

Hi All,

Short post today to showcase my completed Aegis Defence Line ahead of our first two games scheduled for Monday 9th May.  A few months in the making but it has definitely been worth it I have achieved so much painting as a result of this story campaign.

We are hoping to produce a video battle report of at least 1 of the two games if not both.  So the last thing I needed to paint was my Aegis.  I have been putting it off as it didn't float my boat and  well lets be honest the knight is far tastier.

On the knight I should be in receipt of the transfers this weekend which will be cool and allow me some more progression on that in the near future.

Back to the Aegis (Doc!) It has been painted to match my ever expanding 19th Dicers IG regiment. If you look in the side bar there are a couple of videos which showcase some of the work on this regiment.  I am hoping in the near future to borrow Innermech's light box and take some more photos of the wider army and other things in my collection.

A few shots of the completed line are below:

Comments and tips are welcome as always,

Cheers
