Hi All
So I've volunteered to do a post for #Old Stuff Day; an annual journey into the dim and distant blog past, led by Dave Weston at "Confessions of a 40k addict".
Link to his post here
I've spent some time looking through the code archives, battling snotlings in some of the dark and damp sections! I found these two gems from Doc and Trevdog; a nice little narrative campaign they started back in the mists of time.................
Follow this link for the first part of "CODE40K"
a piccie to tease...
and then this little link for the full write up of "CODE40K"
They wrote this before I joined the blog as a contributor and I have to say it was one of the things that got my blogging juices flowing. Just a really nice way to present and play this game we all love.
Cheers Doc and Trevdog!
So that's my look at an old Code40k post and here's a selection of links to other bloggers old stuff I particularly like......
Enjoy!
one of my favourites here from Violet Studio Paint
and one of the coolest flyers I've seen from Le Blog de Kouzes
and finally a really nice Knight from Musings of a Metal Mind
Hope you enjoyed all that and maybe you saw something new but old.
Thanks to DaveWeston for the prompt again.

The Cypra Incident, more terrain WIP.
Hi All
Bluddtoof here with some more WIP on my current project; the fencing terrain for our upcoming narrative campaign; The Cypra Incident.
I'd planned a post over the weekend and even took photos but didn't get round to it so this post contains photos from a couple of stages in the process.
First some photos of the tower after I'd added some plasticard sheeting to give a smooth metallic finish and started adding rivets to this panelling....
Then I moved on to painting, all the pieces got a solid black base coat sprayed on followed by a coat of silver; I used a spray by Plasti-kote, I've used this before and found that it covers exceptionally well but has a glossy finish which doesn't like to accept further painting. I tried a single small piece of scrap plasticard first and tried out a new method for applying rust effects, namely sponge weathering.
It worked really well; using successive coats of Dryad Bark, Dark Flesh, Khorne Red and Troll Slayer Orange I built up a heavily rusted effect, a final light sponging of Caledor Sky gives an impression of flakes of the original blue paint still clinging to the heavily weathered metal.
To finish off the effect and to smooth it all together I washed all the pieces with Reikland Flesh, followed by dabs of Seraphim Sepia and finally Agrax Earthshade whilst the 1st wash was still wet, this has the effect of randomly blending the 3 shades giving a really dirty finish, I use this method on my Orks too.
On the uprights I wasn't quite happy and wanted an even more rusty look so I tried an orange wash all over them.
This pic was taken after I'd finished the sponge work...
Here's a few pics of the set as it stands now...
So not much left to do now, all the uprights need their bases doing, this will involve mud and some swampy plant life. I plan to have vines and creepers climbing the uprights and some of the panels too. I'll probably leave the tower, however I've got some barbed wire on the way which will be formed into coils to sit on top of the fence and form a protective "shelf" around the tower below the parapet.
Then of course I need to build and paint at least 1 more tower, eventually there'll be 4 intact towers and a couple of collapsed ruined towers as well.
That's it for now, more soon....

40K Narrative Campaign 2016 "The Cypra Incident; Birth of The Beast of Cypra", New Ork Bikers Showcase.
Hi All
All ready for the call to war are Biker Boss Nob ZagSkrag BigWeelz and a couple of his ladz! ZagSkrag will be part of whichever tier 2 mission we end up playing; either Recon or Motor Pool Assault.
I've really enjoyed getting back into the Orky Spirit with the build up to this campaign. The hardest part of the painting has been trying to keep the look consistent with my existing Ork collection; I started my Orks back in the 90's with a very different paint collection and a completely different skill level!
Anyhoo, here's ZagSkrag and the boys....
Pleased with these, I'll defo be painting the rest of my bikers, including a whole load of Nobs.
next up I'm moving onto my Lootas, this will complete everything I'll need for the first campaign day since I did a pair of quick weapon swap outs on a buggy and a kan rather than paint new ones from scratch.
Hope you like, c and c welcome as ever.

Worcester War III, The Investigation of The Code. A 40k Campaign Day
Hi All
Bluddtoof here to invite one and all, (well 24 of you anyway) to join us for another instalment of Worcester War, our periodic 1 Day 40k event!
Some of you may have been to WW1 or WW2 over the last year and if so I hope you enjoyed it and will consider joining for our 3rd day. This one will be slightly different in that it's not a straight forward tournament; we're going to try starting a story line to hopefully, with your help, carry on into future events to create a living and changing plot line and history for our little sector of the war torn future.
Cue poster....

New projects. New plans.
I have had my customary break after a tournament, and now I am ready to get back in to building and painting again.
First here are some finished inquisitorial henchmen and assassins:
I have the other 2 types of assassin to complete and now have a pretty full retinue for one of my inquisitors.
Next up I am planning a campaign with my local Cambridge gamers. I have just bout planetary empire and a mighty empires set of hexagonal tiles. This will form a solar system for us to fight over. I am also adding in some special rules for character advancement. We hope that rather than taking special characters that we develop stories a heroic deeds for our basic characters. I think my rules have struck a good balance for bonuses from doing well and playing game, but will not lead to a major unbalance for the players who can't play lots of games.
Also I am going to be working on getting my terrain upton date an looking more like it all belongs on the same board!
And finally model wise. I have Agee things unpainted that interest me, the first being a squad of 10 sternguard.

Playing 40K a Different Way
Hi All,
So April sees the return of myself and Trevdog to the original campaign we played called CODE40K. This later became the name of our group and indeed the blog name. So what is CODE40K? Essentially its a story driven campaign where the result of each battle affects the choice of next game and any other special rules we see fit to add in.
You may ask why play 40K this way. Well the short answer is it breaks up the turn up put down and play games. Its adds a little bit more as to why the battle is taking place. This Friday we will play the first game in what we proposed to be a 5 battle linked campaign. As yet we haven't defined beyond game 1 and what the outcomes of the game might mean.
The first thing we did was write up some background to start us off:
Background
The sector is somewhere around the Ultima Segmentum and Eastern Fringe. The sector consists of 9 systems. One of which is the Arden System which comprises of:
Next we thought about what the first game would look like and who the characters involved would be:
Game 1 Ambush on Plaza Drive

The first thing we did was write up some background to start us off:
Background
The sector is somewhere around the Ultima Segmentum and Eastern Fringe. The sector consists of 9 systems. One of which is the Arden System which comprises of:
Arden Prime, Arden II, Arden
III (The Code campaign), Arden IV, Arden V.
The campaign will start on Arden III in the capital city of Pavonis.
In recent times the
planet of Arden III hasn't been keeping up with its payment of imperial tithes
and has been subject to small insertion attacks by the mysterious Eldar from
the Ulthwe Craftworld. The reasons for
these attacks remains unknown to the Planetary Governor Shonai West. The world itself is mainly controlled by
faction leaders each owning a large production centre. These faction leaders vote one of themselves
to be the planetary governor. In reality
bribes and alliances go on to get a faction leader into power and then the same
to get them out of power!
Payment of the tithes has been dropping for the last two
governors mainly caused by a drop in production from the last war and the greed
of the faction leaders. This injustice
has also spread to the population of Arden III with poverty and deprivation
wide spread. This in turn has lead to
the rise of "The Church of the Emperor's God" as people have sought
solace in religion. The reality is this
is against the law as religion is forbidden and the leaders of the church are
simply seeking to take advantage of the disadvantaged. This group has organised many public rallies
against the leading factions and is believed to be behind a number of small
terrorist attacks, although proof of this has not been forthcoming. One such attack was foiled by the members of
the Adeptus Soritas "Sisters of Battle" who have a shrine on the
planet just outside the city walls. It
is believed they took prisoners but as yet are refusing to hand these over to
the faction leaders?
In addition Eldar raids have been taking place across the
system but the reason behind the attacks is unknown. The most recent of which was on a farming
community 540 miles south of the city where none were left alive. On investigation of the site a large metal
structure of unknown origin was found to be just below the surface. This is still being analysed by scientists
but appears to be a large structure which dates back for thousands of years.
Next we thought about what the first game would look like and who the characters involved would be:
Game 1 Ambush on Plaza Drive
The Plot:
The Imperium
fed up with the performance of the planet has dispatched an Administrator to
get the tithes back on track. A company of the emperors finest space marines
have been dispatched to accompany the administrator and to halt the Eldar
attacks. This game will be set in the
inner city as the administrator is travelling to the governor's palace across
the city. After being dropped at the
edge of the city the administrator is being transported by rhino apc when they
are ambushed by the church.

in space marines first turn regardless if damage was taken or not.
Space Marine Bikes Turn up in
turn 3 automatically
Outcomes:
If Prefect Patrinor escapes it
makes the removal of the church the no 1 priority over and above the
investigation of the eldar attacks. If
Enforcer Irongate is killed in a challenge with Captain Diritz he is presumed
captured. We could play an attack game
on the rebel stronghold. Maybe the
sisters carry this out as they already have info?
Escapes by turn 6 = 3 rebel units
delayed in attack scenario
Escapes by turn 7 = 2 rebel units
delayed in attack scenario
Escapes by turn 8 = 1 rebel unit
delayed in attack scenario
(units randomly determined)
If Irongate is captured it gives Captain Diritz the causing
Fear rule as the rebels are in awe of someone who took down Irongate!
If Prefect Patrinor doesn't escape the rebels grow in
confidence and push forward to attack the governor's palace.
Two options if by some miracle
Diritz is brought low by Irongate then we could have a rescue mission for the
captain! or The attack on the Palace or
both as a combination??
As you can see we havent fully mapped out what will happen post battle. That will allow us to let our imaginations take us where we go next. The ideas above just get the ball rolling. We will post up some pictures and a run down of what happened in game 1. Then discuss where the CODE40K campaign goes next?
Trevdog also wrote this short story to accompany game 1:
A low moaning noise ending with a metallic screech pierced
the pre-dawn stillness above the street.
A cool breeze had picked up just as the morning sun was about to rise at
the far end of Plaza Drive to the east.
Across the gantry spanning the road was an aerial walkway circling a
short curved tower that housed the local sewerage machinery for the pumps
below. As the low moaning started up
again a silhouette appeared against the dark grey metal walls of the
tower. The figure took a cigar from its
mouth and wedged it into the heat extraction flaps to stop them vibrating.
“Thank throne for that Mr Gravesend”, said Krakin in a
hushed voice. “It was starting’ to give
me the creeps”. The tip of Gravesend’s
boot poked firmly into the soft flank of the prone man as he lay looking down
the sight of his hand held rocket launcher.
Krakin recoiled with a grunt.
Gravesend hissed through his sneer, “Krakin, just keep your
eyes fixed on that street. They’ll be
here any minute, then you’ll have something to worry about”. Gravesend’s voice faded as he moved away, “We’re
relying on you to stop those Imps dead in their tracks”.
All was quiet again.
To his right Krakin could just make out the features of his loader and
close friend, Fragin, crouched next to him.
Fragin’s angular jaw looked all the more prominent in the shadowy
dawn. He peered across to the ruined
building opposite to see if he could see the forms of the twins they called Ace’s
High, manning the other rocket launcher from their lofty position, but he
couldn’t.
The other members of The Church itching to take the fight to
the heart of Governor Shonai’s seat of power would be in their positions now
having primed the explosives for the ambush.
They all looked to their leader Enforcer Irongate for the next stage of the
plan to unseat Governor Shonai. Irongate
had inside information about an Imperial Administrator coming to meet with the
Governor to take her to task over the shrinking tithes collected from Arden
Prime. If the Imperial Administrator
didn’t make it to the palace for the meeting, or was even killed, then the
Imperium would come down hard on Shonai and could even remove her from
office. If not it would certainly weaken
her position and favour amongst the other government members.
A rumbling noise from down the street broke the silence and
Krakin’s thoughts. He shifted his weight
to adjust his aim. Coming quickly into
view was an APC. The growling engines
shaking the metal gantry even from that distance. Krakin sucked in through dry
lips and felt a trickle of sweat run down his face. This was it.
Until next time

SVAX The Results
Hi All,
What a weekend....... Fantastic I really cant believe I (and in LukoDakka's case) we havent tried this kind of thing before. I have no doubt all the guys from the code will post up their thoughts on the weekend's action.
Anyway before i begin to go on about how the weekend went for me the final results are here
http://www.spikyclub.com/e107/page.php?29
Ive also decided that my camera is frankly at best rubbish at worst........ So i took a shed load of photos and most are unusable. A new camera maybe in order for this blogging malarky!
Right as i dont want this to be the longest post ever written (not likely) ill talk about my first game.
EARTHFALL (modified planet strike mission)
Doc's Wolves 1500 VS Simon's Mechanium Themed Deamon Hunters 1500
First off Simon's army absolutely blew me away (not literally in gaming terms) with the standard of the painting the thought behind the background, the conversions and the clever use of epic models.
This army was cleary picked purely by theme and indeed if you have already read the results (link above) then you will know he won best painted army! Fair play and well deserved.
On to the game....... (not a full battle report don't worry)
Earthfall is basically a planet strike mission with one objective to defend. I defended and Simon attacked sort of.... To be fair i can sum this game by producing a list of the spectacular dice show that we had in turn 2, here goes....
Grand Master had to make 4 standard terminator armour saves he proceeded to roll all 1's.
I say, "ill just shoot my assault cannon at the land raider to get it out of the way before i assault it" (Oh i definately got it out of the way) 3 hits produce one 6 in the penetration roll rolling an additional 6 for the D3 extra and then rolling a 6for damage.
I shoot 2 krak missile's at his dreadnought producing 1 hit followed by a 6 for penetration and then another 6 for damage.
I wasnt immune to the bad luck though either i made 5 armour saves on the long fangs from a round of shooting failing them all!
Sometimes its truly amazing what 40K can throw up and im not sure ill forget that turn for a very long time! As for the result it was pretty difficult for Simon to come back from that position after turn 2 and i got a victory in the first game hoorah! Simon and me laughed hard with this game. He was a top bloke and deserved his best painted army award. So here's another pic!
More on SVAX soon
