Pre Heresy Death Guard Progress

Hi All,

So im back post christmas and new year blues.  So painting wise on the death guard i havent been able to do much over the festive period as i completed a couple of Necron projects for the code xmas bash.  (Ill post those separately).

After the purchase of Dark Vengenace at Games Day i set about taking off all the iconography using my new tool (xmas present from me to me!).  So to start this post off here is a couple of pictures of dark angel (DA) terminators minus the DA iconography.  Personally the standard terminator works for me not sure about the seargent the robes still make him look like a DA i think.  Particularly as im going to paint them white and green.  Any suggestions people??

Standard Terminator icons removed from shoulder pad, storm bolter and right leg.

Terminator Seargeant angel wings removed, icon removed from shoulder pad and storm bolter.
So i stated above havent been able to do much!  Well i have done some....  Heres a couple more painted marines.

So this guy is a DA from dark vengeance cleaned up as above and painted.  I will order up some Death Guard transfers from forgeworld when i get the chance or may have a go using a skull transfers and free hand!  I think this shows it can work cleaning up the dark vengeance DA's and using them as something else!

Secondly another chaos marine figure painted up apoligies this shot is a little blurred.  Sorry i only have an i-phone for photography!  (one day ill put that right!)  I painted this one to get a feel as to whether of not fitting chaos marines and space marines together would work??  To illustrate this i took a photo with all three together.

Ok the bit where i ask do they work together or not??  My opinion is YES.  Put simply as i mentioned in the first post i cant afford forgeworld and im not good enough to convert everything so this is my compromise using a variation of model types.

Ive started 3 more... Some tips for painting white.  Finish painting the white armour last when washing try to get as little on the armour as possible it will save time later.  Several coats of heavily watered down white will give the crisp finish.  Lastly patience white is hard and unforgiving and im not the best painter in the world so you need to know when to leave it alone!
Final picture is a sneak peak of some more in progress...  Well not really its a defiler claw.  I thought i need to know two more things will this work on a large scale model.  Secondly will the colour scheme work on the really chaosy stuff!
So it will be a few weeks before any more death guard comes out as it takes an age to paint them also as you will see from other posts ive got loads going on!  Lastly an appeal for genuine honest feedback; ultimately i put stuff on here to show others, help motivate myself with projects and also to improve my techniques.  Feedback can always help this.

Thats all folks

Pre Heresy Death Guard The Start

Hi All

DOC back to 40K post...

So my last post i talked about playing SAGA for a change up from 40K.  So with the release of 40k 6th edition it drew me back in again.  The rules are the best set yet in my opinion.. and the rulebook is far easier to interpret.

So with money short at the moment, this new project started with the aim being how can you get the most use out of your models for your buck?  For years ive dabled with CSM but not really got the project off the ground.  I had been given a load of chaos stuff by Red Mist years ago but not got round to it.  It also seemed an appropriate project given the rumours (at the time) of the impending release of the new chaos codex.

So the Code Crew went off to Games Day UK and extremeluko picked up the forgeworld book betrayal featuring the first pre heresy lists and primarchs.  I picked up Dark Vengeance  and it was if the penny had dropped at that moment.  Why not paint the core of the army so it could be used as a Space Marine Army, A CSM Army and be used as a Legion List from forgeworld.

So i decided to paint some test models. I started off with the idea to have a go at a Word Bearer, Alpha Legionaire, Thosuand Son and Death Guard. All in pre heresy colours. I abandoned the Word Bearer and Alpha Legion guy early they were just not doing it for me. The other two i completed.
Obviously from the title i plumped for the Death Guard and the test model is shown below:

So now ive finnally decided its full speed ahead...  Both the Marines and CSM from DV will be painted in the same colour scheme.  The DA symbols will be all carfeully scraped away.  As cash is tight i will be stripping old models and re building them to paint for this Army.  Ebay will also be my best friend as i look to build this army towards SVA13 next year.  Some pics of my work desk:

I picked these up off EBAY:

More pics and explanation of painting to come stay tuned.

40K Apocalypse game; Imperium vs Nurgle

So a few weeks ago we had one of our occasional Apocalypse games, this time it was to be an alliance of Space Marines and Imperial Guard vs the minions of Nurgle in the form of Traitor Marines and Daemons. We played 5k per side (less than usual for us) and by setting a 45 min time limit per player turn we got a full 5 turn game in and fought to a decisive conclusion in a single day! (This is a major achievement for us as usually we spend so much time gassing, boasting, arguing over rules and generally catching up, some of us live quite a way aways, that we often need 2 days and still don't finish a large game.
The game was great fun, we used 6 objectives which scored points equal to the turn number in every player turn that they were controlled, only walkers and infantry could score. We also used the random objective rules from 6th ed which are a nice twist but ultimately had little or no effect in this game. Ultimately the imperial forces took a proper shoeing in points by the end of the game (with less than 1/2 the nurgle score) mainly because we started with lots of tanks on the board and didn't control objectives quickly enough, allowing the forces of evil to gain a massive buffer of points.
By the end of the game though the imperial forces had almost full control of 2/3 of the board, the nurgle plaguereaper had gone apocalyptic and we still had a the majority of our troops alive.
We looked at the aftermath and agreed if the fight was to continue the imperials had a good chance of clearing the chaos filth away.....
Alas it wasn't to be, time was up and we had to teleport out to the braying of our victorious foes...

Here's some pics of the day.....

SVAXII in Pictures and few words

Hi All

DOC here, ok so the dust has barely settled on SVAXII and what a great weekend was had by all!  So normally what happens on the CODE40k blog is we all go crazy to get everything finished for SVA and all the vast majority of posting happens from Jan to March each year.  This year will be different....

Im not going to talk about lists or stats....  what i would like to talk about is the motivation it gives you seeing all the different painted armies.  HYPA has taken a shed load of photos which will be posted up in due course.  Some teesers from my mobile:

I would also encourage everyone to look at Ben's (Campaign weekend organisers Blog) where he has posted some great photos and talked through some of the highlights from the weekend.  He was a top guy and put in some serious effort so we could all have a shed load of fun.

I'm Back!

Well after a long break since my last post I thought it was about time I updated everything I've been working on. So here you go!
Cast your minds back to christmas, the best time to be thinking about what projects to start, as if you've been a good boy, Santa Claus might bring you some nice new shiny's!
With my mind focused on the most excellent Spiky Clubs, up and coming SVA Tournament, I was keen to be ready as the last year I was painting right up to the last second.
The last time I took my orks so this time I wanted to take something different for 2 reasons.
First of all I wanted to take something more competitive as although my list previously wasn't terrible, it wasn't really picked to smash the opposition to bits. So I'm flicking through various Codex' for inspiration & what I'd need to make a competitive Tournament Army. I asked myself "Whats a really competitive (cheesy) army that is quite forgiving and means I won't get my ass handed to me like last time?"
"DOUBLE LASH"........oooh thats a bit cheesy I thought.........oh well....

Ok so I wasn't going to make any new friends but hey, friends are overrated ;-)
So with no apologies intended, I went for the following ballbusting, no god preference, beast of a cheese list: -
Chaos Space Marines 2000pts List

2 Daemon Princes (Mark of Slannesh, Double Lash, Wings)

Greater Daemon

7 Nurgle Plague Marines (Champ - Powerfist,Melta) 1
Rhino (Extra Armour)

7 Nurgle Plague Marines (Champ - Powerfist,Melta) 2
Rhino (Extra Armour)

7 Nurgle Plague Marines (Champion) 3
Rhino

8 Khorne Bezerkers (Champ - PW)
Rhino (Extra Armour)

3 Obliterators
3 Obliterators
Defiler

The 1500pts version was without the defiler, greater daemon and nurgle/rhino squad 3 & the Oblits are split into 3 squads of 2.
SIMPLES.

So Crimbo came and I hooked myself up with 2 brand new swanky daemon princes and a couple of rhinos and I was ready to start building and painting.
I began painting straight away but with a January 31st honeymoon to Australia for 4 weeks lined up, that was obviously the deadline date. Well as my fellow bloggers will testify, I wouldn't be me, if I didn't leave it all to the last minute. By the deadline date, to give myself credit, I had completed most of it but still needed to finish off a nurgle squad & a rhino. I then decided, after contracting a heavy dose of painting fatigue, It would be best finished when I got back from Oz, and it was.....the night before.....till 6:30am in my pants!!! Suffice to say, the boys weren't too impressed or really surprised for that matter! But hey, all done in the end! Still a little sketchy based on the time frame but I can always go back in and finish them off another time, as long as they were tabletop ready I was happy :-)
So heres some of the latest additions mostly finished: -

Converted Obliterators

Greater Daemon of Nurgle (sculpted & painted)

Plague Marines (Work in Prog) Champ & Guy to right finished only

Daemon Prince No.1

Daemon Prince No.2
Well theres just a handful of images to look at for now but i'll post up some more this week. I'll post up a couple of battle reports from SVA XII and how the Double lash got on at the weekend. I'll also post the start of my next project which I plan on starting this week -
The Sanguinary Guard Army
Take it Easy
