Space Wolves, Desk Tidy and Total Distraction

Hi all,

Doc here,

Slight problem today and over last couple of weeks called FOCUS.  So am I like all hobbyists and tend to jump from one thing to another?  My last post consisted of my work in progress Necrosphinx, which I will post  up soon as it has to be finished by the end of the month.

In the mean time I did some useful stuff like clipping all my sprues out.  Do you guys keep all your spares??  Well I do but got fed up of them taking up too much space!!!  They are now all sorted in to army types using business card holders.

So I also got a game against the Necrons bringing the space wolves out for the first time in just over a year.  Doing that put me in space wolf mood and this was the result:

As well as the fact that the necrosphinx needs finishing I also decided I need to finish Hypa's converted Casket of Souls for our large Warhammer game at the end of June.

So this brings me back to the start again FOCUS.  So the plan is to paint a Space Wolf Thunderwolf for next Sunday night so I can use as a Wolf Lord for the night.  This will also allow me to play fully painted.  Next up Necrosphinx and finally Casket of Souls by 23rd June.  Hopefully by setting myself deadlines ill work to this and NOT start something else? In addition it will hopefully give some nice pics of new minis to show you guys!

Grey Knights!

Well after a gee up from Doc on the lack of posts I thought I had better get round to telling you all what I have been up to. Well I had a great month off from modelling/painting but did a load of buying! EBay was a true friend. I picked up apoc + apoc reload rulebook and Imp armour 1 and 2 all for under 50%! Via Warseer, I bought 10 grey knight terminators (new plastic, 1 box unopened!) for £35, and 7 bikes and 1 attack bike (a bit mashed up) for £12; and finally I helped Hypa cull his collection buy taking his Ravenwing off his hands.
So what are my plans? Well I have many, but here are a few:
1.       Paint 20 grey knight paladins. This will give me a nice 1750 list along with my already painted Draigo.
2.       Bike company. The Ravenwing is a solid base, and I have a further 15 bikes (and 2-3 poor condition ones) and 1 attack bike. I have a bit to do with them and want to paint the white on the Ravenwing to yellow so it fits in with my whole chapter colours
3.       Scenery/table. I have got a game board but it is too heavy and was put together in a bit of a hurry. I want to make this up properly and a bit lighter. I also have a lot of scenery to update from my fantasy days of 15 years ago, and some new stuff to build and paint.
So I have a tournament at the beginning of July (probably the last 5th edition one) and I am taking Draigo and 20 paladins! I have no idea how it will do but I think that the best models GW have ever done are grey knight Terminators (both the 3rd edition metal and more so the new plastic ones)
So I have built 2 similar squads each with banner, apothecary 2 hammers (waiting for 2 to turn up from bits store) and 2 heavy weapons (one squad with 2 psycannons and one squad with psycannon and psilencer).
Here are some pics of them after I have sprayed them all chainmail

My next stage is to wash them in blue in (already done just no pictures) then highlight in chainmail and mithril silver. The helmets, and some armour plates will be gold and so will the weapon handles. The blades will be blue like Draigos.
That is me for now.

Necrosphinx Work in Progress

Hi All,

Ok so nobody has posted for a while.  Well the SVA and Carnage excitement has died down and now its back to reality.

Excuses over...

Ive done a little work on my Necrosphinx, it is one huge model and feel it may take a while to get too completion.  Heres some pics in progress please feel free to comment and suggest ways to improve the finish.

1st picture is base colours and 1st line highlight on the blue stone body

2nd picture shows the completed base colours followed by a wash of the gold.

3rd picture shows: The first part of finished gold on the model for a test... burnished gold highlights and a touch of mithrill silver to pick out the edges.

Final picture shows the first wing completed as a test for the red highlighting.  Gold completed as above.

More pictures to follow when i have some more finished.

Sister's Repentia - Reload

Painting the base colours. I used Regal Blue mixed with black, a non GW silver, Bleached Bone and Bronzed Flesh. For shading; I left the blue as it was having used quite a dark mix for the base, Black ink on the silver (I’m not happy with the result so I will be re doing the base on it. The Bleached bone cloth areas had a watered down dark brown and the flesh was reapplied with Bronzed flesh again.
First stages of highlighting for the blue I used a mix of Ultramarines Blue and Enchanted blue, applying a second mix with more Enchanted blue. I just touched around the edges of the corset where my eyes and finer touch were able to co-ordinate. The liturgy cloth areas and parchment were highlighted with Bleached bone and a brown mix, adding more Bleached bone and then adding Almond and White into the mixes.
There’s still detailing and touching up needed. I will post the finished model in the near future. Trevdog.

Sister's Repentia - new recruits

Sister’s Repentia – Painting Although I’ve collected the Sisters of Battle figures for a long time now the last painting frenzy on this army was about ten years ago. Yes I know, 10 years! More surprisingly is the fact that my army has survived, sorry got hammered, without any form of harder hitting units that Seraphim until now. To be honest I didn’t really like the Repentia models. Can’t really put my finger on why. Anyway, I ordered some and had some donated. Sprayed them white and got the brushes out.

My Sisters order is called the Order of the Blazing Prophet. Their uniform sort of reflects this, a bleached bone armour and a midnight blue cloth type colour scheme. The Repentia are a little different because there is more exposed flesh. I thought the contrast would be missing if I had bleached bone and flesh dominating on the same model so I have used dark blue for the corset, silver for the metal plating and chains etc, and white liturgy and scrolls for the robes. Hope the pictures of WIP have downloaded ok.

There’s still detailing to be done. I’m quite pleased with the result. Now I’m beginning to like the models!

Trevdog.
