A New Thunderwolf (Bear) Lord WIP

Hi All,

DOC here again to give an update on my WIP thunderbear lord.  I originally posted up buiding the model up here. Once again a deadline is pushing this project along.  This time its a 4k game vs Red Mists Khorne some of which can be seen here.  Yes that's a Warhound you saw!!  We have decided not to play Apoc but rather try out escalation rules for the first time.  Not sure how I'm going to kill it mind you.  Anyway I digress here is some work in progress shots of my new lord:

Making a New Thunderwolf (bear) Lord

Hi All,

Doc is back to talk about my new thunderwolf mounted space wolf lord.  One problem with that statement he's actually mounted on a bear!  I'm a big fan of using alternative models to make my army stand out if possible.  So last year I went down to London and went in Dark Sphere and picked up Scibor's Celtic Lord mounted on a bear.

Dreadful December the voting

Hi All,

I hope you have enjoyed the code's event Dreadful December.  Now on to the voting.....  We would like you to help us judge who the winner of our best painted dread will be.  Yes code guys you can vote but not for your own.  Please put a comment with the name of the dread you think looks best out of the following dreads.  One lucky winner chosen at random will receive some codedesigns bases as a thank you.

I have chosen the best of the entries and have concluded the entry must be fully complete in order to be entered.  That of course means I'm an epic failure for my own idea (I've snuck an old dread in no one will notice!).

First off Toonboy78's Grey Knight Dreadnought:

Full post details and further pictures can be found here.  Other work in progress posts can also be viewed.

Code40k A History

Hi All,

Today I'm going to do something of a memory lane post.....  To get some context to this post a brief history is required.  Code40k is simply our group name and came about from a campaign run back in 2006 run by Trevdog Howler.  On the back of this we set up a yahoo group which we use to communicate with each other to this day.  All of the contributors to this blog are in our group which continues to grow and migrate to other countries.... if you can use the word group essentially we just all share the same passion for model games.

The interesting thing about the yahoo group is it allows files and pictures to be uploaded to it which is useful when running a campaign between friends.  More importantly for this post it gives me the chance to go and grab some stuff from the archive and bring it back to life!

For the statos out there we have sent 8,058 messages to each other talking about this great hobby!!

Right on to some highlights of the group known as the CODE40K

The First Big Xmas game well at least the one I have photos of XMAS'06

This was I think pre apocalypse days and we came up with a flag scoring game using a massive city fight board.  You can see one such flag in picture 6.  Basically the side with control of the most buildings won.  Now if memory serves the conscript building using the ammo dump special rules caused mayhem in this game!  Also Honourary mention goes to LukoDakka for the plague ogryns in picture 3 they stole the show that day!  Also if you look closely you can see his face in the background of pic 4 which made me laugh!

This last shot shows the catachan jungle fighters hanging out in the big cathedral building we made for the event and I noticed on the yahoo group some work in progress shots of this beauty....

We put show much effort into this piece, alas we rarely used it as it was just too big!!  In the end I turned it into 3 seperate pieces so it could be used more often.  But for the first Xmas game it was the bomb!

As we moved in 2007 onwards Mr DarthDarlow, Hypaspist and Boss Bludtoof began to join us and we started to get bigger and crazier with our games.

DarthDarlow was the eldar Man and produce some great Biel Tan:

These were awesome although Darth to this day is the worlds best roller of 1's.  It got better on the vehicles where in a moment of sheer brilliance or madness Darth painted rose thorns on:

The thing that stikes me about this table is how devoid of terrain it is we certainly wouldn't do that these days!

2009 also saw the continuation of the ongoing war between my Space Wolves and Red Mists Khorne boys certainly a battle of the ages....

Love this photo really shows off the quality of Red Mists painting.  Don't fancy my Grey Hunters chances in this situation though!

2009 Also saw Hypaspist Stag Do....................... In a Battle Bunker yes a battle bunker remember them!

As with any stag do it wouldn't work without the obligatory T-Shirt

Action Shots

December 09 and we were at the big game antics again and this time Hypa had taken some great photos but also kindly captioned them which I shall re-create a few here....

Ok I could keep going but the post is quite long now and my wife requires my presence.  All I would like to say for all the moaning we do about this hobby it gives some great times with great people!!!!

Space Wolf Reinforcements

Hi All,

DOC again and more building of models (how many more you say) LOTS is the answer!!  So this week ive been adding to my space wolf army and i ashamed to say every figure in this post is present of one sort or another and as yet i have done nothing with them! Not any longer!

Ok first up Canis Wolfborn (in metal thats how long ive had him to do!) This guy weighs in... easily the heaviest model ive done for a while and a real pain to put together.  I drilled and pinned as many parts as possible.  I think if you dont with this much weight it will get broken.  Ive also filled in all the gaps with the greenstuff and used the thousand son head from the thunderwolf sprue on the base.

Two more thunderwolves ready to pounce.  This is the remainder from my set of three.  Please see my other thunderwolf post.  Ive decided to make my squad of thunderwolves troop killers and survivable.  So ive armed one with a wolf claw and storm shield (see post link), one with storm shield and close combat weapon and one with close combat weapon and bolt pistol.  This will allow me to position the unit in order to keep them alive I.E storm shield guy at front wolf claw at back.

This forgeworld dreadnought was a birthday present for my 30th (im nearly 33!) from the other members of the code Thanks Guys!  My only problem with this model is the cool banner (not in the picture) which is huge but will be easily broke.  Ive decided to put a long pin into it so i can slot it in before each game and take it out for casing purposes.  The base is from 616 Designs and this is my third space wolf dreadnought see these previous posts,  this post and lastly this post.

Fenrisian Wolves (ok its not) but thats what im going to use them as.  My good friend Hendrix gave me 5 of these so ive green stuffed there backs with fur and this will take me up to twenty fenrisian wolves!  Heres my previous fenrisian wolves post.  With Canis and Thunderwolves it will be a niced themed list to play with.

Last picture is Arjac Rockfirst an xmas present from 2011.  Not much to say about this, apart from awesome model looking forward to painting this one!
Well guys as you can see the stack grows ever bigger for painting once again youll see them again when they have paint on (not sure which year yet though!)
