Bringing out the big guns - Showcase Acastus Knight Porphyrion

Phew! What a paint filled couple of days that's been!

Since it saw the Acastus Knight previewed at the Forge World Open Day I knew I wanted one but didn't actually expect to own one any time soon. Then Christmas came and maybe I got all caught up in the spirit of giving but anyway it happened I ended up ordering myself one! Haha no regrets!

Whilst I've been privileged to work on no fewer than 7 Imperial Knights over the last couple of years, I always seem to forget just how much of a time and space investment they are, and this guys is bar far the largest thing I've ever tackled.

Once I'd gotten my head around the basic construction I set about deciding how I wanted the Knight to look and what I saw him doing in my mind.

I wanted to attempt to inject a little more movement in the model than I'd seen so far and fortunately the FW kit is pretty good at allowing different  positions, I did however run into a few issues with pistons being too short once I had positioned the one leg and later found the armour panels clashed so ended up having to break the leg apart (rather scary...) and rebuild it. Fortunaly the rebuild actually looks all the better for it so no harm done.

As I have probably mentioned before, I'm a massive fan of basing models so I figured "Let's start from the ground up" and set about making a suitably scaled area for the Knight to be operating in. Unfortunately the Acastus doesn't come supplied with a base (160mm being the largest GW manufacture) so I knocked up a 200mm base from some clear Perspex I had laying around at work. Then added some ruins, sand, rocks, FW casting blocks and a stray 9mm shell and boom. Base set. Shout out to LukoDakka for the orientation advice, ruin to the rear 100% the right shout.

With the base done it really was just a simple case of throwing down my Knight House Colours and getting stuck in. I'd still got a few days off of work so with the wife at work I managed to attack him pretty hard for three days of straight painting.

Please meet the latest addition to my Knight house -

Ruins Bastion

All told I'm chuffed with him, I'm not totally happy with the paint job and a few things have irritated me in the venture but I'm probably just being overly critical of myself. Anyways, here's a group shot of him with his brothers..

Lefts to right -

Red Wrath
Tempestuous Reason
Ruins Bastion
Indomitable Heart
Omnissiahs Repugnance

Anyway - I'd better dash as I've a doubles tournament to prepair for in the morning that a few of us from the Code will be attending!
As ever, many thanks for reading and I'd love to hear any comments or critiques from you guys so be sure to drop something in the comments :)

Thanks all

Thunderbolts Chapter, 1st Company Reinforcements

Hi All

Bluddtoof here with an update on my recent work on some Assault Terminators and a couple of character models. All these models were originally painted a few years ago but I'd only given them a basic paint job on the weapons. I painted up the Captain and tried a lightning effect on his hammers to represent the power field.
Recently I was preparing for a big apoc game and decided I wnted to run all my termies, so I decided to update the ir weapons to be like the captains, at the same time I needed to rearm my Chaplain who was previously armed based on a much older codex version, so he got a new shiny Crozius and a combi flamer, all the better for purging the Heretic!

Some pics...

..of the newly re-armed 1st company assault squads.

At some point in the hopefully not too distant future I will be re-basing the entire marine army to be more inline with my Imperial Knights, for posts on them see here , here , here , also here , here , this too , and this , this , this as well as here , here and finally (or initially) here

Next job is my Typhon, and a vindicator which I will be painting using my new airbrush, so some practice is ongoing with this new tool.

Showcase Cerastus Knight-Castigator

In my last post I was undecided if I was to paint up my scouts or start my second knight.

Well as you can see from the title I made my decision.

This is my CERASTUS KNIGHT-CASTIGATOR.

It is the same colour scheme as the lancer and here they are together. I still need to do the transfers, but i will do them both together now they are complete.

I am a big fan of this type of knight rather the the normal one from GW. My next purchase for the knights has already been made…..

In the long term want to complete a household, but I need to figure out how to get the “GW” knight to fit in with these taller models. Maybe I just have to build them all as crusaders with the top weapon to give the added height.

I am currently working on my 3rd squad of centurions. This time armed with heavy bolters, and I have started the camo cloaked scouts

I hope to have these done in the next few days when I can hopefully look to start either a fire raptor or a storm eagle.

Summers over, time to get back in the hobby!

Hey guys and girls, me here again with a bit of an update as to what's going on in my little hobby world.

First up was the Forge world release of the Imperial Knight simply HAD to get myself one of these as I figure this was the reason my knight lancer was so rubbish in close combat - he had no pilot!

Really really nice little model and it's actually possible to insert him into the pilot seat even if you've already constructed the Knights Cockpit.

Next up is the Harlequin commission - that's progressing nicely, I'm still absolutely loving the models and each one is such a fun clean joy to paint it's refreshing from the imperial grime!

Finally, some of you might recal I mentioned a special personal project I was undertaking? Well, after much procrastination about the models I wanted buy and the list I wanted to field I eventually got around to picking up a nice 1750 Krieg list for myself. These models have been on my wish list for years, ever since I returned to the hobby at the start of 6th edition. I didn't truly ever think I'd own one so I'm now attempting to do them justice and make this y own display army.

I was talking with Doc a little about the armour and he asked if I intended to do heavy weathering on the Armourd division and at the time I said "not massively weathered, no". But then I got carried away playing with a few new techniques and such and ended up with a rather bashed up Vanquisher tank that I'm pretty proud of.

I also had a quick start at the first infantry platoon this weekend.

Anyhow, thats pretty much my little corner of the world right now - other than to say thanks to the guys that attended the Pork Chop event in Cheltenham with me, that was a very very fun day.

I hope you guys are all well and the dice gods rolling in your favour!

Until next time :)

Busy Busy Busy!

Hey all, apologise for not posting anything in awhile - as ever i've been somewhat snowed under real life and trying to catch up on my hobby backlog!

Firstly, I got around to finishing the Dark Eldar commission I'd been working on - I was never a major fan of the DE until I actually painted some of them and realised just how awesome the models actually are!

Anyway, my next project is an Eldar Harlequins force - very different scheme from the DE but for the same customer. Once again, I wasn't massively awed with the models when they were released but my word, they are awesome to behold once you get your hands on them.

I'm hoping these really won't take as long to paint as the Dark Eldar!

Finally, I managed to get around to my Imperial Knights and get some serious magnet work done. I cuts off the arms of my first paladin and managed to insert magnets back into the joints so now all the weapon options are swappable between either Knight. Just need to get the paint onto them now!

Anyway, as ever, thanks for reading and I'll be updating next with a very special personal project that I've wanted to achieve ever since I returned to 40k :)
