Dreadtober WIP

Firstly can i have a round of applause for my lovely Wife, as i've painted almost every night!

Nearly half way through Dreadtober and Gnaf is coming along well, i haven't started the base yet to try and finish the model 1st.

I'm really pleased with the 13th Co. badge and the odd red armour plate.
Hope you like it, comments welcomed

What's That Coming Over The Hill....

Howdy
Afew photos of Gnaf Redrum tonight in his unpainted state.

I was trying for a feral/wolflike pose as it's a wulfen so lots of pinning ensued, the statue on the base came with the contemptor so i thought it would be ungrateful not to use it, i was going to put a helmet on it but managed to fit the proper head in (with a bit of fiddling) and i think it works well, most of the other bits came from the SW termie sprue or were made from greenstuff.

To finish here's Bob taking one for the team to show it's definitely not modeled for advantage ;)

The photos will improve i promise

New Boy -Please don't feed-

 'tap' 'tap' '1' '2' ......is this thing on.........

Howdy, they call me Gumby
This is my first post so sorry if I ramble.
what can you expect you say ? well other then bad grammar ( and worse puns ) hopefully a bit of converting, painting and interesting ideas. So lets dive in

I've played Space Wolves forever and really miss my 13th co army from 3rd edition (deep striking long fangs with melta guns ) and of course the loss of wulfen, so i was intrigued by the idea of Murderfang even if it is a silly name (and it is so I think he'll be Gnaf Redrum sounds much more Fenrisian :) ), but the model is really static for a mad wulfen dread so in step a contemptor which are way more pose-able.

I got this c/c dread off our favorite auction site, managed to take it apart quite cleanly and cos he's a lune he's bound to be battle damaged so it didn't have to be purfect.
I removed the Purity Seals and Codex icons, shaved the knuckles on the hands, repositioned the toes to give a more running stance, pinned all the joints and took most of the mounts off the Murderclaws
Dry fit
Cheers Doc for letting me post

Space Wolves Forgeworld Dreadnought Showcase

Hi All,

Doc here with a short post to showcase my newly painted space wolves dread.  This guy was a 30th birthday present from all the guys in the code and I'm now 35 and its just got painted (WOOPS!).  My progress in the last 18 months has been really slow and in particular has been slowed by playing with and learning new techniques.

I've decided I need more painted minis on the table and so a sacrifice on quality may occur but painted dudes that's what I need!

Ok a few photos stop rambling DOC!

So painted to match my existing force but with a few new tweeks added on.  I have used weathering powders on the power unit vents and around the feet.  The base is a 616 designs base (dont know if they are still going) needless to say Lukodakka had the foresight to order me one at the time to go with the dread (thanks bert).  I also played with the technical blood paint on the claw which is nice stuff.  I used an old toothbrush to do a bit of splatter with it.  Something Redmist could do with his upcoming Pre Heresy World Eaters Army.

Talking of redmist the terminator helmet had to be a khorne helmet our life long battle goes on!

On the banner I had originally intended to play with freehand for the first time.  However, when I went through my masses of transfers I came across the self adhesive dread banner.  Wanting to get the mini finished for a game and making it match with the existing force I took the easy route.  Actually on reflection I am quite happy with it.

Another 10 points on the board

Comments are always welcome (constructive and amusing most welcome!)

Cheers

Forgemas - Completed Sevrin Loth

Well at last I have time to post a blog update.

Christmas and January have been a particularly hectic timer in my household. I have had relatives over from Canada, relatives down from "Up-North" and once Christmas was complete we got this new addition to the clan (chapter)

As I write this she is over twice the size she was in these photos!

As you can see my time for the hobby has been seriously reduced. thus the late posting of a completed Loth.

here he is with his honour guard

I still need to complete a bit more of the details but they are solid enough for the moment. I will go back at some point in the future and do more detailing.

I have also got back some masters of the chapter I received for a birthday in 2013. My brothered had painted one of them so I thought it only fair for him to paint the other 3

and finally here they are with the first one

Here are all 10 of my chapter masters

I was in Manchester the other day and popped by the Arndale GW. Wow they really have put the effort in that shop. how many points for this?

And finally what am i working on next? I have just tidied up and under-coated another tactical squad (10th..). i used my FW free postage voucher to buy Ashmantle the Salamander Dread. and i also picked up this fella as a bodyguard for one of my Inquisitors

Hopefully puppy will calm down a bit so i can get on with some solid painting.

My 2015 aim is to clear the back log of unpainted models before I buy "too much" new stuff....we'll have to see how that goes

Dread-full December, Thunderbolts Dreadnoughts.

Hi All

Continuing with the Dread-full December theme, here are the rest of my Marine Dreadnoughts. Along with my new Contemptor these make up my 9 strong Ancients Assault Force.
Here's piccies of them all;

With Plasma Cannon;

With Quad Autocannon;

With Lascannon;

With Assault Cannon;

Fire Support;

With Multi-melta;

Ironclad with Chainfist;

Ironclad with Seismic Hammer conversion and Hurricane Bolters;

And finally the Contemptor;

And all 9 together;

As you can tell I like Dreadnoughts, I plan to build a Mortis pattern Contemptor too in the future, probably with Quad Lascannons and I have the remains of an old metal venerable left after all my recent conversion work, he'll get some new arms when I've decided what I want him to have.
As I've been touching up and converting these models recently it's become apparent how much my painting style has changed over the years since I started the Thunderbolts, how much I've improved but also how marked the changes in the GW paint range have been. Originally I used Ice Blue, now I use Lothern Blue, I'm carefully nursing my last bottle of Dark Angels Green because its' replacement; Caliban Green is totally different, when mixed with white, for highlights, it produces a much greyer tone. On the other hand Ceramite White is far superior to Skull White, giving better opacity and coverage and a much brighter finish. The brass has changed from the original Dwarf Bronze through Brazen Brass to a newer Dwarf Bronze and back to a newer Brazen Brass and is now the new Brass Scorpion. Don't even get me started on red! Suffice to say I'm now using the 3 new shades of red in layers, most notably on my Techmarines all of whom are either new builds or were stripped and repainted recently in the new reds.
So that's it for now. I'll be posting some pics of my existing Ork walkers soon as part of Dread-full December.
